Looking, I see the 0-6-0s but nothing to me that legitimizes the asking price. Same to the wood sided passenger cars, asking is ridiculous.

I'll be ordering the UP F7 AA, is a steep price but..... I would like to hear a B unit superbass, I'm not too impressed with an Alco B unit superbass I bought. Disappointed with min radius on the Amtrak F40. I'm going to think about the Electro-Motive SD90, would have went for it if they had UP.

I cant believe the prices. Lioncheif locos are running north of $600 now. The LC+2.0 Hudsons are listed @ $650 and the LC+2.0 diesels are listed @ $500! Railking engines are about $150 less. If I buy any new engines this year they will most likely be MTH.

I don’t think I will be ordering anything from Lionel. Just too expensive.

The prices really are something. I may break down and get the B&O bobber caboose when it comes out just because I think it would look neat behind my 0-6-0 switcher. But that's the only item I'm interested in considering the prices.

For many years, I looked forward to the release of the Lionel Catalogs. No more. Not that there are not nice things in the catalogs, we have such a narrow focus for the theme of our layout that nothing really fits anymore. A real miss for me is the Yellow Warbonnet. Just horrid. The blue stripe up the nose, who thought of that? Black trucks, no. 3rd Rail did it best and they are treasurers for me. This engine sets the benchmark.

These are all K-line steam engines, I have more of them and never paid over $450 for any of them. Would I pay $1,599.00 for a Lionel Berkshire that used a old K-line mold? I could, but I wouldn't pay $45.00 for a ham sandwich either. Don

I would order the Pennsy 0-6-0 if the tender were correct (or just close). The advertised is miles off from any photos I can find online that they had behind their 0-6-0.
How would one relay this to Lionel? I know they have much more appropriate tender shells out there.

Have not seen those photos before, Jake. However, my humble opinion as a Yellow Warbonnet fan, get um out of here. This has so much more appeal. Apparently 3rd Rail agreed.

I found those pictures when I looked the scheme up out of curiosity. There weren't many to be found so I'm guessing it wasn't a very common one. It looks like it was likely a scheme that came about late in the game. Black running gear was likely far easier to keep clean (or at least looked cleaner without being washed frequently) and the blue stripe was more in line with the striping arrangement on the traditional red/black/yellow warbonnet scheme.

... While there is some nice stuff illustrated and I can certainly afford buying anything there, the prices are just more than I wish to pay. Am I the only one, not seeing value there? Dennis, far be it from me to tell anybody here how they should spend their money. I've never done that... and I won't start now. Lots of times, we have our reasons why we're "ok" spending $$$$ on big-ticket items. And that's perfectly fine. After all, this IS a hobby... and we all should be having fun.
HOWEVER, every once in awhile... we get to draw a crystal clear apples-to-apples comparison like this one that will blow Lionel's value proposition (in this case) right out of the water. Ready???
So just a few days ago, a well-known dealer sent me an invoice for an MTH BNSF 25th anniversary bay window caboose that he was ready to ship. Street price for this Premier piece of rolling stock is $69.95 on a $74.95 MSRP. It was announced early last year when MTH started their near-daily, special-announcements approach in lieu of an annual or semi-annual catalog. And I had pre-ordered it... along with a set of coordinating boxcars and locomotive.
Today -- pretty much one year later -- we see Lionel offering THEIR version of the very same BNSF 25th anniversary bay window caboose. The same dealer has a pre-order price of just under $120 on a $145 MSRP -- a nearly a whopping 70% bump in price for what is essentially the same product. For that difference, you'd expect Lionel's caboose might have camera electronics or some other special feature(s) that might warrant that kind of price increase. But nope!!! It's just a nice scale caboose with the same color scheme and logo decorations at almost twice the price.
Value? Sorry... it's just not there.

The NS 40th Anniversary set seems to be very nice. $1200 MSRP does not make it that nice though!
I think Lionel could have done some more development of Christmas items. The sets are being rehashed again. I miss MTH Christmas offerings each year. The only thing that might interest me is the Night Before Christmas Illuminated Boxcar. The trees are lighted on one side with LEDs. Not going to preorder, but something I might consider when delivered to dealers.
