We need a photo gallery of tinplate trains, so let's see 'em...on the layout, on the shelf, in a diorama, on the floor, on the workbench, wherever, it's all good. I'll start with this shot which folks tell me is one of the best taken on the current layout - from November 2018, an MTH/Lionel Corp. 254E heads a consist of original Lionel 800/2800-series freights: Post 'em if you got 'em. Paul R.

Would a video do? My pre-war Marx M10005 streamliner (the only train I have that's older than me! ), when it was just back from a motor refurb:

Perfect; one of these days I’ll have to figure out making videos.
Nice Marx M-10005. I have a prewar M-1000X and a Railking MTH M-10000...I’ll have to crack those out (although the Railking likely wouldn’t qualify as tinplate).

Well, if videos will do, I'll add one of my only other tinplate, a PW Marx childhood set on long-term loan from my brother-in-law, running on a *much* earlier version of my layout!:

Paul R. This is a super nice picture / layout / rolling stock... Is it yours healey36 ? At the first glance, looking at the track size, I am hesistating between O gauge or Standard gauge... OACE

oace yup, this is a photo from some six years ago. The layout is O-gauge...no standard gauge on the basement layout. The view is considerably different now, having added telegraph poles and a number of other scenic items. It's a nice long straight, perfect for viewing trains as they exit the Lionel 305 bridge. There used to be a pedestrian bridge here, but the company removed that to reduce trespassing by railfans (marginally successful).

I see healey36... I was mistaken by the handle bars on your Olive Green resplendent electric locomotive : is it a reissue ? Or did you refubished an old one ? I read MTH/Lionel Corp. 254E, and this let me think that it is a recent unit... Whatever, your layout is truly magnificent - The kind of which I will never have the room to build, unfortunately... I am damned to the Upstairs Pass, the Bedroom Tunnel, the Norman Wardrobe Desert, the Corridor Grand Canyon... OACE.

Nice postwar Marx set, Steve. Those tin diesel A-A combinations are sharp. I always prefer the look of four-wheel cars...call me weird. Repro MTH 254E, oace; the freight cars are original Lionel. I acquired the loco years ago when a mint example of an original was cost prohibitive. One of the geographic features of the basement layout is “Heat Pump Pass”, so I feel your pain My two-rail O-scale friends like to remind me a railroad would never run a tank car directly behind the locomotive for fear of an accident; instead there would be another car in between. Can’t tell you how many times that’s been pointed out when viewing that photo, lol.

I always thought the Lionel 318/318E was one of the nicest representations of the NYC S-Motor, perhaps topped only by one of the Ives versions. Looks like a great set...is this the beginning of a standard-gauge display?

A lot to see in that photo, af. I needed a pole similar to the one on the top of this station for my faux version...found a few on eBay, but the cost was prohibitive. I'll have to try to make one. I have a few repro insulators, so probably not too tall of a task, just need to find the time. Looks like an Americanized Bing in the background.
