Well, it finally happened. OGR kicked me off. I posted the thread about my layout modifications. It was on the main O gauge thread, and then they moved it to the layout construction thread. After searching, I finally found it and made a comment about moving my thread to an obscure location where it wouldn't get many views. Well, this was apparently too much for the powers over there, and I can no longer participate, put on the persona-non-grata list, so to speak. I like that site because I always get a lot of responses to my posts. The participants are a good lot of folks, but, the administration is is WAY too heavy handed for my taste. I bid them adieu, since i have far too many other things to consider in my remaining time, over and above their fiefdom.

This is exactly why this forum was created, plus many other reasons.
I remember a lot of us were fed up with the other forums and the smart people did something about it. We've been going strong and haven't looked back.
You don't have to worry about that happening here.

It used to be a great forum. Was a good group of people when it first started out. Now it's so large, and the heavy handed moderation, just doesn't make it enjoyable anymore. Tip toeing around hoping you don't get the boot for slight of the rules. Really can't voice your opinion since the powers to be don't want to offend the hands that feed them.
No grace period, no second chances, gone if you screw up intended or by mistake. I know so many good people they have kicked out over the years and really over the past six months. I go over there now to read what's going on and I don't recognize the place.

The management style of that forum is both arrogant and immature. Has been that way for MANY YEARS... and it's never gonna change until there's a completely new ownership in place. If you enjoy being treated like little children, then you tolerate an awful lot just to stay in touch with some of your model railroading friends over there. I often voiced my candid -- but fair -- product reviews, and the last straw occurred when my posts were constantly edited... and then they put my posts into a moderator's queue before the membership at large could view them. At that point, I told them to stick their moderator's keyboard up their rear orifice... and that was the end of that. No regrets for me whatsoever with one exception -- I should have told them how I really felt YEARS before that, but I held my tongue WAY too long. Now folks have a choice in forums -- something we didn't have back in the early 2000's.
The recent influx of folks joining OGF has been amazing. We've even seen a few dealers check us out too, and I'm sure they like what they see here... and they don't need to pay a nickel to make a custom-run announcement on this forum.
Welcome aboard here. You will notice a TREMENDOUS difference on this forum. Members are treated like adults, which is the way it should be.

I got showed the exit after telling some to be careful during the covid crisis. Also I'm often critical of our O gauge builders for numerous things. As you can see they like to treat everyone like children and follow their Gestapo like moderation. Glad your here Bob, hope we can learn from your posts. Also if you have a good joke please tell us. We like to have fun. Our main focus is O gauge trains but any subject is on the table.
Welcome to the OGF,
Dave

Really how long can they go on? They are not spring chickens over there. Rumor has it they tried to sell a few years back with no takers. I wouldn't want to be burden with a dying horse (the magazine that is) at their ages. Who would take over? I can see there being one O gauge magazine soon or none at all but forums and Youtube are where it's at these days.

What many of OGR's naive forumites don't realize is that they are NOT the customer. The pompadour wearing, 2004 Corvette driving management of OGR does not care if the forumites enjoy there experience on the OGR forum. The forumites are there to be a captive ready made audience for the OGR sponsors who pay the pompadour wearing, 2004 Corvette driving OGR manager big bucks to have access to the group of forumites. The pompadour wearing, 2004 Corvette driving, OGR manager sees the OGR forumites as machines on a factory floor and when they are no longer useful or if they get troublesome, they are disposed of. I am also sure the pompadour wearing, 2004 Corvette driving, OGR manager kept your money as well.
