I love the figures that the village makers produce, far more whimsical than anything I could ever come up with, but I suggested to the wife that we might try a few that are a bit more "size-appropriate". Except for the dude on the clear acetate base, here's some Plasticville folks I painted for this use: These, along with a few others scavanged from the layout, might serve to populate the under-tree village this year.

I saw the followling while searchng on the web - I am creating a "Thanksgiving" area on the layout -
""Department 56 Snow Village First Edition Gather 'Round For Thanksgiving""
Do you have any information about this - Is this a new village series?

It was released in October 2023 as part of the Snow Village collection. There have been a number of Thanksgiving and Fall related pieces over the years, usually as part of the Snow Village collection. This is a nice addition but it’s not part of a new village series. I would love to see a special Thanksgiving series. I think it would be very popular.

My wife has quite the Dept 56 collection. I set it up every year. Next Christmas I'll take pics and post. Sorry to say I don't do the train around the tree bit or incorporate my wife's village on my layout

I always thought there was a dearth of industrial pieces in the Dept-56 lines, but maybe I'm mistaken. I know the concept might not fit well into the quaint village/town/city concept, but it'd be great if there were a few reasons for the railroad (other than the occasional station/depot). The only item I've found that sorta fits the bill is the Farmer's Co-op Granary: Easy enough to put a siding alongside. I'm wondering if there any others out there, by any of the manufacturers?

Very cool piece Healy. I have a Grainery as well but this is much nicer.

Inthe D56 Dickens series there are brewing items that could rate a siding for tankers. The oast house is one, and there are others. There's also a chocolate factory.

Thanks, Bill. I'll have to look around for those. I have a set of railroad accessories that I think are Dickens series items...a small building, a small derrick, and a couple of signals. I've not used them as they seem strangely undersized. Here's a better pic of the engine house:

Bill, I saw this out on eBay, the Snow Village Factory...looks like it has potential as a ceramic village "industry". A siding to the loading dock could work nicely:

Has anyone built their own wooden buildings? I guess they'd be to 1:48 scale. Maybe a Barn or a Wooden Tunnel?

Well, not D56 or the like, but yes, scratch building with wood is fairly straightforward. I just finished a model of the old Cambridge train station, structurally all in basswood with cardstock and other embellishments:

Wow. That looks great. I did find some kits that I might consider.
