Wife and I went to Brimfield Fleamarket today and I came home with 3 new vehicles for the layout. 1956 Corvette, the rubber band that held the car in its box left some scuff on it so I will need to clean that off at some point. For $3 that’s ok with me. Chevy C3100 Pickup And an unusual piece that was calling me. It’s a hallmark model of a kiddie car based on a 1932 Keystone Coast-to-Coast bus. Not exactly to scale. But really neat!

Forgot about this item. I thought I was a great addition to my office/music room/radio room/man cave.

You got some nice stuff, Adam. The bus may not be scale but I really like it.

I just received my second Rahway Valley Boxcar. RVRR was a short line that ran through the town I grew up in. The tracks ran behind our house and that was the playground for my friends and I, but by that time (1970s) that section was decommissioned.

It was a rather fragile model as it needed the stirrups repaired. I was going to try painting a couple if I could find the right cars. The decals are available… Tom

For $3 that’s ok with me. All nice stuff and I particularly like the blue 'Vette. The residue or scratch from the rubber band should polish out if it's not too deep. Looks like a metallic finish on the model and they can be temperamental when applying cleaning agents other than very plain soap and water. The color looks near identical to a Testor's metallic spray paint I have used which I think was called Artic Blue, an enamel.
P.S. Your task might be easier if that model already has a clear topcoat as the rubber band damage might be limited to that. They might have used a pearl blue which usually requires a topcoat, which in turn might be a fast-drying lacquer. That provides a very hard surface.

Picked up my first Williams railcar which is a lighted Conrail caboose. Pretty beefy for a car. Also got a Lionel NYC flatcar with trailer.

I finally got around to taking some quick photos of the train items I've acquired this summer for the Penn American Railroad infrastructure. Several departments will be highlighted in subsequent posts.
Real Estate and Buildings Department
Arby's Restaurant (Menards 279-6149) I've always enjoyed Arby's. And when we landed in San Diego it was the first place we stopped to eat on the way to our new home from the airport. It's lit up with 42 LED's, some landscaping, a covered drive thru window and a '51 Hot Rod pick up truck picking up dinner. And of course, Jack the dog. Additional details include enter and exit signs, three Arby’s logos (lit from below) and two AC units and has interior illumination. I didn't remove it from its packaging yet. The clamshell top is stapled to the bottom of the package, I didn't feel like dealing with it until I place it on the layout.
Amtrak Passenger Station (Menards 279-4523) This is a great small "Amshack" station for a suburban or remote outpost. It could also be used as the main station in your city with the modern construction. It features 4 electronic Amtrak signs with animated lighting effect, five people, luggage, trashcan, mailbox, schedule board, planters, AC unit on the roof, and Jack the dog. The passenger platform is lit from LED's under the overhanging roof.
Grandpa Jack's Hobby Shop (Menards 275-0616) Every layout needs an O gauge hobby shop! It has large windows and simulated interior and twelve LEDs illuminate the store’s entrance, while another ten show off the store’s signage. The exterior is lit with 22 LED lights. The left exterior wall has a large, full color poster for Bachmann Trains, and on the right wall there's an image of Jack on a large sign for Menards Trains! It's made to match the now sold out Menards Strip Mall shopping center. I missed out on that one but this could group with any other stores.
Lamont Lanes Bowling Alley (Menards 275-9140) I love bowling! I've bowled since I was eight years old so this was a must have for my layout. I have a couple bowling buildings from Lemax and Department 56, but the Menards model is much more highly detailed. And loaded with details it is! Outside two giant bowling pins bracket the entrance. Inside are three sets of tables and chairs, two ball return hoods and a rack filled with a colorful assortment of bowling balls. The four alleys have that fine wood texture used in bowling alleys everywhere. They also have simulated dividers and gutters. You can see it all through the front and side windows as well as a rooftop skylight that has two HVAC units.
Looking down at the skylight there are four scoreboards mounted on a beam running over the lanes. And all the lanes have pins ready for action. You'll also have a great view of the tables and even interior wall texture. The interior and exterior has over 25 LED lights, colorful chase lighting inside, a fully decorated interior with four bowling lanes, complete with balls, pins, bowlers, and three tables with six chairs. Parked outside is a 1958 Plymouth Fury with working lights. Another artistic detail is a three-dimensional sign on the right side that portrays nine pins being rocked by a bowling ball with the slogan "Go Bowling". This is one of my favorite buildings from Menards! I'm hoping I can get inside and add another kegler or two with a ball on the lane heading for the pins!
East Strasburg Passenger Station (Lionel 2029260) It may be 30 years after I wished for them, but MTH and Lionel have finally come through with the long awaited Strasburg Railroad Items. I use to live about 40 minutes from the railroad and went there often to ride, photograph or sometimes just watch the trains, as well as visit the shops and restaurants there. So as these products were made I just had to acquire them. I didn't plan to do it, but in the future if more Strasburg items are made I may be compelled to create the Strasburg Railroad complex in O gauge! This is a standard Lionel passenger station dressed up like the East Strasburg Station, and it's close enough for me! This will work great to go with my current and future Strasburg trains. It's a plug and play illuminated model that i will power separately.
Strasburg Cherry Hill Station (Lionel 2030010) Another stalwart of the Strasburg Railroad. This tiny passenger hut stands guard on the railroad at Cherry Hill Road to serve its population of 17 (more or less). The trains don't stop there but it's a historic sentinel on the railroad. For $15 I had to add it to my Strasburg collection. It can be placed anywhere along the tracks for use as a flag stop. It's not illuminated but has a shutter on one window like the real one.
More acquisitions for other Penn American Railroad departments coming up next!
