A MTH Premier B&A caboose, a custom run by Jr Junction in Syracuse, arrived today, what a beauty, love the color, interior details, marker lights etc. I finally have a caboose to go with my B&A 4-6-6T… Thanks to Phil at Jr Junction.

Here's my latest - a 99 cent special courtesy of e-bay (of course the shipping came to $10 so it was a $10.99 special) The car is an American Flyer #1108 baggage that has experienced extreme sun fading. What makes the car curious is the fact that the sun fading is on all 4 sides of the car and to the same degree. If you look at the door you can see it must have been pushed open when it was exposed to light so the only fading for the door litho is the thin vertical band on the extreme right. If you lift up the roof there is a very thin line of unfaded litho which suggests the car was a deep wine color...and now for the curious bit. Notice how the lettering and the center part of the flying locomotive herald appear to be blotted out. This isn't blotting, rather it is an additional layer of litho ink which was applied to change to color of the lettering. The sun fading turned that layer of litho into an almost opaque layer. I have no idea what color it might have been. In addition to this, when I received the car and took it apart for cleaning I found a small note inside which indicated it had originally been part of the Lou Redman collection. For those of you unfamiliar with the Train Collector's Association Lou was a well known collector and had the unofficial title of "Mr. TCA". I've added a picture of the car below to give you some idea of how American Flyer printed different layers of litho ink on their car sides. As you can see - yellow litho ink was overprinted to change the color of the lettering, numbers, and some of the outline details of the car sides. The car itself most likely had a white base layer which was first overprinted with gray followed, in some order by red, green, and yellow.

Okay I know said ask me after York, but I was at I Love Toy Trains in Michigan City, IN and saw another RailKing Cat high cube boxcar so I got it. I know I said "ask me after York", but there it was begging to come home with me. So now it's on my layout. Attachments:

Have to order today some last minute needs for the new layout. String lights from Evans Design, and garland to dress-up the tops of the apartment buildings that serve as the backdrop. Boy, the new tops for the backdrop are terrific. Quick look at where I was at yesterday.
