These two Marx State of Maine boxcars rolled into the Ophir yard this past week - with the addition of #4486 and #4490 to the solid string of State of Maine boxcars there are only three missing numbers to go before I finally have the consist of all 16 cars.

Post by seayakbill on Nov 11, 2024 at 10:29am Received these 2 RMT woodside beer reefers from Pats Trains last week. They will force me to pull all of my 36 foot woodside reefers out and assemble a very long unit consist.

AF3020, are the other cars you need from Marx? Are all the others Marx as well? What would you use for engine and caboose for the unit consist? Alfred

atsda, yes, the other three numbers I mentioned in the earlier post would be the remaining 3 SOM cars. Marx turned out a series of 4 new litho boxcar styles in the post-war period - the FGEX reefer (10961-10976), PRR Merchandise (37960-37975 + a 17th car with no number), State of Maine (4485-4500), and the NYC Pacemaker(174580-174595). I posted this picture of the 4 solid consists awhile back on another thread on this site. I have all of the FGEX cars but I wasn't able to fit them into this picture set up. Since the picture was taken I've added several more to the string of State of Maine cars and about 2 each to the PRR and the Pacemaker run. As for head end power and trailing caboose - they will be anything Marx I might want them to be. In this picture all of the head end power and the trailing caboose are from various Marx sets in my collection. In addition to the 61/2" boxcars Marx also made an NYC mail car with 16 different numbers (5011-5026) and I'm just a few away from completing that run as well.

My new MTH WTIU arrived today.
Installed it, turned it on, it did an update, I added my engines and it works flawlessly.
I was hesitant about the app vs the handheld remote but, I adapted in no time, and surprisingly I think I like it better. Also added the app to my iPad and good to go,
It was definitely worth the wait. and glad it arrived well before the Christmas season.

In honor of a family uncle who was an engineer for the WM operating out of Bowest while also being a farmer and a moonshiner, I purchased a Rail King 19th Century V&T gondola. And after a bit of kit bashing, the WM gondola is carrying Southern inspired crates of corn liquor.

dasboot, since you have a family connection with the Western Maryland you might want to check out this book. The book was complied by the Western Maryland Historical Society. It is a collection of interviews of 29 employee who worked for the WM. The occupations of the individuals are diverse and cover positions of both labor and management: Maintenance (1), Engineman (14), WM Police (1), Brakeman (1), Clerk (1), Baltimore District Sales Manager (1), Roundhouse Foreman (1), Foreman of Wharves (1), Conductor (4), President (1), Vice President – Operations (1), Trackman (1), and Fireman (1). The interviews vary in length from 6 to 9 pages. The interview form is the same for each individual (introduction, brief life history with a lead to the how and why of seeking WM employment, WM training, and memorable experiences) however, there is extreme diversity with respect to each of the individual stories including those within the same occupation. Each interview is illustrated with one or two pertinent photos. I thought the book was well written and edited and an excellent single book introduction to first person accounts of railroad life.

Found this nice K-Line diner at a flea market for $10. It apparently lights up and has smoke, but I don't know (yet) if it works. Even if it doesn't, my plan is to decorate it for Christmas and use it in my Christmas village this year. let us see some pictures if this on the Christmas layout
