Every pike needs a wrecker...good project for this winter. The kitchen table, your toolbox, and a pot of coffee...okay, maybe an urn of coffee in this case, lol. Looks terrific to me.

I have better looking ones, but they are remakes by MTH.

I just bought the MTH Halloween Crusader steam engine and tender. It was a great find. New in box. I guess it was old stock. I have only ever seen a few of them. I plan to get it on the tracks of my current Halloween layout and do a short video of it then post it on my YouTube channel. I'll post it here when I am done.

I am curious if anyone here has ordered the new 20th anniversary Polar Express Legacy engine. One is Blue and the other is Maroon. I like the look of the Maroon a little better. I was considering one until I saw the price. $1699. Maybe one day I will find a Limited Edition Gold but that will probably be prices through the roof also.

But I will stick to my LionChief version.

Not a purchase, but a club member gave me a couple of log cabins with lights. Next I'm going to put in a fire place effect from Evan's Designs. Attachments:

A club member gave me a couple of log cabins with lights. Next I'm going to put in a fire place effect from Evan's Designs. While you're at it, why not add 'smoke' to the flicker? You can use an inexpensive ultrasonic transducer as I did, or consider using a bit more expensive Suethe smoke generator for more realistic smoke. I just received a few used units (removed when upgraded) but haven't had a chance to try them out yet, but they look promising. Good luck, in any event!

That's a good idea. I use Suethe, but I'm going to look into that transducer. Be forewarned it takes more than a bit of fiddling to get it to work, and a lot of out-of-sight bits and pieces: In the video, you can see the clear container I used to hold the distilled water (recommended, for long-term use) that supplies the transducer, which is embedded in the wood block I fabricated to both hold it and direct the vapor output into the clear tube, which in turn channels the output from under the layout to beneath the 'fire'. The lid of the water container is screwed up into the bottom OSB layer of the layout, and snaps over the container, holding it in place. Once it's in place, the unit has worked flawlessly, and so far the distilled water has not needed to be replenished. I used essentially the same rig to upgrade an old Menards burnt engine shed, with the addition of a fan to stir the 'smoke' from beneath the engine:

Picked up this PRR MTH 4-8-2 at a local train show Saturday. I didn’t need it but had to have it. 😊

Denny, the log cabins are a unique addition. As far as smoke generation is concerned, I would get one of the scrapple-burning units which are under development. Alfred

Twenty some odd years ago I bought a like new #1404 Marx position signal from a dealer at one of the train meets. What I found most interesting was Marx had, apparently, decided to make their position light a simulation of a CPL (colored position light) like those that were part of the B&O signal system. Years passed and, from time to time I would find another example of the #1404 in some state of disrepair. One thing I noticed was, regardless of the condition, when I did find one, whatever few lights were still left in the lamp house were always all red. I didn't think too much of this and I just assumed the various bulbs had burned out and been replaced with whatever happened to be available. Several weeks ago I found another #1404 - new and in the box - and when I pulled it out I discovered all of the lights in the housing were red. It was at this point I decided I should check some of my Marx references. My assumption was that Marx had changed over from the CPL look to just a position signal at some time in the past....wrong....it turns out only red lamps were used in the #1404. So, I now have a "correct" #1404 and a #1404 that someone at sometime in the past decided to "convert" into a CPL.
