Denny, While we were in the Strasburgh, PA area on Saturday, we stopped in an antique shop on Rt. 741. I found a NYC Pacemaker box car in excellent shape in the original box. Believe it or not, I did not buy it - is was from 1987 - too new for me; it was at a good price. I am having secondd thoughts now. Alfred

I picked up a Lionel NYC caboose to go with my growing Pacemaker consist. I was at I Love Toy Trains in Michigan City, IN getting my LC+ Pere Marquette repaired (which I won't get back for a while). I was browsing and came across this caboose from a collection they had just purchased. The price was right so I grabbed it. Attachments:

dennym57 - I am flattered beyond words - I've had my pictures printed/posted here and there but I have never had the honor of having one of my pictures chosen by someone for their avatar!

dennym57 - no worries - I'm glad you like it and as I said, I'm flattered. I gotta ask you what time of night did you shoot this. When I lived in Chicago I shot a lot of pictures at night. I also did headshots.

It's a pre-dawn shot. My favorite times of day for rail photography are the periods of time from about an hour before sunrise to about a half an hour after sunrise and the reverse in the evening. I'm a real fan of the blue hour and the lighting effects it affords. This picture was taken at 6 AM. As far as pre-dawn is concerned what this means is I get up around 3AM to make the drive to where I want to be when the color of the sky starts to transition from black to very dark blue to pre-dawn to sunrise. The only downside is if you are trackside with your gear and anyone happens to see you there is a good chance you will get reported as a terrorist. The good news is when the police arrive, as they often do, they take one look around, shake their head, maybe ask a question or two, and then leave. If, as is often the case, I'm using my big 800mm zoom, the police will sometimes tell me the caller stated I was a maniac armed with a bazooka. There are a few places I've frequented on multiple occasions and I know, just from the way the cars are slowing down, that I'm being reported and, since no on shows up I know I'm logged in somewhere as just being an eccentric railfan who has no sense about getting a good night's sleep.

I was a night owl back then. Sometimes I went to bed around 4 or 5AM mainly because I belonged to a large CB cummnity and we were on the air most of the night.

I traded in a few things at the train shop & picked this up. I mostly keep to PRR but Seabaord had caught my eye a while ago.
