Remember folks......PRICE IS WHAT Y O U PAY, VALUE IS WHAT YOU GET! If you REALLY want to buy some train that a "guru" wiped under his/her armpits then so be it! It's that valuable to you! OTOH, if one has a modicum of sense, and that "gurus'" train is the same one/model which is across the aisle at York (or at your local hobby shop) and is priced much less......well then be silly, or let saving $$ decide for you!

Guys, guys a new poster always has to wonder thru the ins and outs of any forum. The gentleman in question did nothing wrong imo. In all my Years I have had many people not agree with me and do I care, NO. As far as Chris RBP goes I like the kid and yes he is a kid to me. His videos are fun and interesting and I watch all of them. So he announced that he was selling some of his trains thru trainZ. Did I buy any of them, no. At my age and watching my financials, no. I would have liked to but at my point in life its just not feasible. Most of you guys complaining about Chris and TrainZ are barking up the wrong tree. God, we need younger people in our hobby but the constantly criticisms of the YouTubers you sound like a bunch of old farts who think the younger generation can't do anything right. Yes he gave away a Triplex to a kid who will never forget it. And the highrailers give a train away every year, that's great and I encourage people to do it.
Myself I try to help a financially strapped family with kids by helping them by give something during the holidays. if they want trains all the better if not buy them what they need or want. A lot of us here have the financial where with all to do it but few of us do. You must get involved with the family to know what is needed. Btw TrainZ, I have bought many items from trainz, they are a company that stands behind what you buy. If something is wrong tell them they will replace it, fix it or refund your money. I started buying from TrainZ because I can't afford to buy what Lionel and to a lesser extent Mth are selling. The pricing structure from Lionel is outrageous!! I will not buy anything from Lionel and have not since 2018 when price's started to rise to a high level.
Lets be kind to one another here and remember we all have different opinions!!

Dave,
Hello and thank you for your obviously heartfelt post. Since I suppose I am one of those to whom your comment is directed, please allow me to respond.
Whenever I hear that something is a labor of love, my sphincter puckers is the nicest way to put it.
The YouTube model is about money or consideration for the YouTube influencers plain and simple. The giveaway is the constant drum beat of click like and subscribe because it helps the channel.
I make the distinction between so-called influencers and those content creators who post on YouTube and other platforms because they are just trying to advance their hobby or subjects in which they have an interest or expertise. These folks serve the interests of the hobby or interests in which they are engaged and their's is truly a labor of love.
As for what I will characterize as influencers, I could not care less except that they either downplay or are silent to the economic benefit to themselves while characterizing their videos as strictly for our benefit or entertainment.
It is that simple and strikes me as disingenuous.
I did not start the thread about Chris' Trains Trainz promotion but I commented upon what I considered was the absurdity of the promotion's premise.
It is only my opinion, and no better than anyone else's opinion.
However while you may not agree with my opinion, I am direct, usually concise, and never post in anger.
And lest I fail to acknowledge your generosity, the spirit of giving you perform is well documented and exemplary to all the recipients that you have graced with your concern for providing a little joy in what otherwise might be a joyless holiday season.
Bravo is not an adequate accolade!

I did start the thread and although I was only posting what I saw online about RBP'S Trains selling some of his trains. Whatever his reason for selling them is up to him nobody else. It seems alot of people read something thing else into it. Yes he was promoting the sale of his trains and why should he not have. What TrainZ came up with to sell them at York is left up to them nobody else. Chris was there to answer questions only. As far as what anyone thinks of the YouTubers they are doing a service to the hobby by showing what they buy and how they are enjoying the hobby. If they can make a few bucks from it the better. I'm the most non-Tech guy on this forum but I do like my tech laden trains. If I could have the knowledge to be a YouTuber I would but for now I leave it up to the young guys like Chris, JD, CHRIS M. and many others. I see and hear the criticisms every time I go to York about the YouTubers, alot of guys and gals my age (old) have to learn that these guys and girls have something to say about the hobby weather you agree or not. The TCAED should be taking a look at these people and I believe some are taking notice on how they promote the hobby. I have loved this hobby since 1970 when I bought my first MPC locomotive. O gauge trains have come a long way since then and in 2024 I'm still at it and I love it still. Lets enjoy the hobby we all love. Ill be at York again in October if the lord is willing not to take me home just yet.

Wait, I'm in this for the money? Then my business has been losing money for 15 years - Jason Jason, you and Chris and all the other O gauge YouTube producers keep doing what you’re doing!! Your videos are fun to watch and even gives me ideas for my own layout. The more O gauge content the better!! Thank you for your efforts.

He makes a living on videos of new trains. So I can see needing to thin the heard for future purchases.

He makes a living on videos of new trains. So I can see needing to thin the heard for future purchases. I have a slightly different theory, which anecdotal evidence proves correct. Namely... the importers have inflated prices so badly, that enthusiasts are forced to sell existing roster items to mitigate the purchase price of the new goodies that catch their eye.
Bottom line: the net cash price paid for the new item is what the price SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the first place. But now the buyer needs to roll in the proceeds of a sold item to "afford" the new purchase.
It's all an addictive disease. But the importers know exactly what they're doing, while they grin ear-to-ear all the way to the bank.
