Minimal effort? Sigh... - Jason No argument there. That’s what the importers are aiming for today to a large degree. They barely even respond when we bring up important issues, such as incorrect colors, car name misspellings and the like. It’s like we’re talking a different language. But that’s the hand we’ve been dealt these days. And it’s a cultural difference that’s not changing anytime soon. In one sense, I almost admire the younger generation’s ability to look the other way on these issues today — all in the effort to keep the video productions upbeat and positive. Not suggesting it’s a bad thing — just that the YouTubers have adapted to changing business practices quite well.

Suggesting that we put in minimal effort and benefit financially which, I assure you, is not the case. From personal experience, while it's nice to make a little ad revenue, each video I make is a net loss. My videos, as well as everyone else I know making YouTube videos, is doing so out of their love and passion for the hobby. If someone wanted to get rich making YouTube videos, O Gauge Trains is NOT the space to make that happen LOL! - Jason

I think too many people think its easy to put together the videos the YouTubers put up. It takes alot of time just film the video, then edit the video, pulling the trains off/on the layout. Plus you need a plan before you even start.
I can't do it, mostly because I'm technology challenged. There are some great videos I like to watch online, Chris Rains, JD stucks, Chris and trains and a few others. Minimal effort is not how I would have classified the effort it takes to put one of those videos online. I hope the guys and gals who do these videos keep doing them, I watch!! I may be as old as the hills and basically being done buying anything else but I do enjoy what's new and seeing them running on their layouts.

Let me clarify as this may be lost in the edit of my original reply.
The effort minimal or otherwise of Youtube so called influencers as compared to physical labor as one example of what folks of my age consider work for their careers is IMO insignificant.
Admittedly I am a fossil.
For the most part I view social media influencers of any ilk as parasites adding no value except for their own self interests. Any material benefit to others is strictly coincidental. I say this as influencers of any genre are always trying to boost their subscribers to reach that magic number to start cashing in. Does it pay the mortgage or the weekly grocery bill, likely not but it is income none the less.
On the other hand I recognize that there are those YouTube content creators (not necessarily so called Influencers) who are motivated by something other than self aggrandizement, and income.
Jason it appears that you may fall into this category and I apologize if in my generalized criticism of social media Influencers you got caught up in my net.
Any content regardless of the format or platform created for the greater good of the intended audience is welcome.

Anyone can create and upload a video on YouTube (just check my channel for proof).
But few of them do it well and with any level of professional editing work. There are some excellent model train content out there and I think Jason and RPB are among them. Those who do it well get many subscribers as they should.
Same is true for my other hobbies.

As you know, I've always been big fan of your videos... and I don't doubt for a second that they take lots of time to produce well.

Semi Hijack thread alert! But this also lends itself to another phenomenon, that of the 'celebrity/well known collector' auction. Unless you had a special relationship with that person still with us or their estate is there some sort of added cachet associated with that train item which makes it more valuable to you than the same item being sold by mere mortals? It seems to be so if some of the auction results from well known collectors or the auction house hype are any indication. Would you pay more to own a train item owned by a well known collector? If so would you identify the item in some way in your collection such as with "From the Collection of ....." 'plaque'? Just asking. NO!! Dave Well Dave evidently Trainz thinks it has more value because each of Chris' items comes with a signed by Chris himself certificate of authenticity.

Minimal effort? Sigh... - Jason Agree with you Jason. I am but a rank amateur at best and my short 5-minute videos can take days to make. I don't even know how some of you folks can pump out high quality edited videos on a regularly scheduled basis and still balance they rest of life's requirements. Ron

Later today, I'll be posting my April 2024 York Virtual Bandit Meet Sale in our buy/sell forum here on OGF. And as an added incentive, I will provide an original owner’s certificate of authenticity signed by yours truly... the originator of Virtual York Bandit Meet sales in 2012 on online train forums.
My how time flies when we're having fun!!!
