Hopefully you both are over indulging with alcohol beverages or controlled substances otherwise you should both be in straight jackets. Kinda hard to believe but I have not had an alcoholic beverage since 1971 or any controlled substance, ever!! But I like model trains, does that count? I don't know about Traindiesel but I don't like straight jackets, those are hard to get out of especially on a date with my wife/ girlfriend. At my age that may be a good thing!! Now back to regular programming!!! Dave

As for beverages, I only drink when I'm drunken to!

OK folks... time to return back to the matters at hand with our regularly scheduled programming!!!
Earlier I commended Chris RBP Trains for his ability to break through the minutia that has become selling model/toy trains on social media these days. Hope you're sitting down for this:
IN THE 4 DAYS, SINCE CHRIS POSTED HIS YOUTUBE VIDEO ANNOUNCING A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF BIG-TICKET TRAINS HE'S LOOKING TO SELL AT YORK THROUGH TRAINZ, HIS VIDEO HAS RECEIVED 47,000 VIEWS!!!
Now compare that to the whopping 21 views my "Virtual Bandit Meet" thread has received since I posted it here on OGF's buy/sell forum 19 hours ago. Mind you... I'm not talking about 21 responses. I'm talking about 21 VIEWS!!!
BTW, absolutely no sour grapes here... just a harsh observation of how powerful the reach is on different social media platforms. So score another big footprint win for the YouTube generation.
Yes... we might enjoy each other's company here chatting with each other on online forums like OGF... and to some degree OGR as well. But make no mistake about it. The YouTube crowd is kicking our butts in terms of audience reach... which by the way is largely why I don't take the time post large for-sale lots on the online forums anymore. My ROI is actually much better by selling at Allentown ATMA, where people are browsing and SEEING goodies to buy in person.
Bottom line: like all things in time, nothing stays the same forever. The Virtual Bandit Meet concept posted to an online forum worked like a charm in the mid-2010's. But now if it's not transported to a YouTube platform where the host already has his or her self-made enormous audience, it doesn't stand a chance. How's that for a harsh reality check???
So I guess I'll need to hone my video-making skills, and create lots of certificates of authenticity. Or perhaps I'll just save myself the trouble and enjoy selling at Allentown ATMA every now and then as the mood strikes me. LOL!!!

Don't feel bad. Views do not necessarily mean sales. I attribute it primarily to voyerism the new contact sport of the younger YouTube generations. My disdain for most internet influencers versus YouTube content providers doing this for the advancement of whatever it is they are promoting (other than themselves) is well documented.
Maybe exaggerated facial expressions or out of proportion train engines appeal to some, not me.
Obviously Trainz has hitched their fortunes to Chris and others like him. Good for them.
As for me, I am old enough to know how to open a box and understand what is inside w/o additional assistance at least for now.
For now at least our WTB/For Sale is pretty anemic compared to you know who.
Perhaps OGF needs to up their game in this area to provide you and others with not only more views but more sales!

I can appreciate what Chris is doing and I wish him the best, but the bottom line is that even if the items are NIB, Chris will likely encounter significant losses from the original value. Is this a correct assumption?

Well Dave evidently Trainz thinks it has more value because each of Chris' items comes with a signed by Chris himself certificate of authenticity. I think it’s brilliant marketing! Why not cash in on his popularity if someone deems the certificate as value. Hmmmm…., this gives me an idea! I’ll hand out certificates of authenticity to everyone I talk to at York! Then everyone can know that it was authentically me they talked to. Suitable for framing of course.

Is this a correct assumption? Very good assumption, indeed. But we are blessed that there is a reasonable value on the secondary market for these goodies at all.
Then again, there ARE some exceptions -- albeit very few -- where sellers hit it big. Grzyboski Trains has often picked up a few items from my booth at Allentown ATMA shows. I know they're gonna resell them, so I price them accordingly in a package deal. It's win-win for everyone. But I don't even wanna tell you what one of my Lionel Legacy SD70ACe diesels sold for on their eBay store a few months later. Two clowns with more money than brains bid up the price to over 4X what they paid me for it. Talk about ROI!!! But seriously, I want nothing to do with eBay selling. Just isn't my cup of tea. So like I said... in the big picture, it was a win-win scenario.
On a related note... Lionel's VisionLine products usually hold their price-point if NIB, near-Mint or very minimal run-time. It all boils down to supply and demand, and we're about to see that play out in spades this week at York!!!
If you look at the list of items Chris wants to sell, I think he'll be successful in achieving his goal: namely, he wants/needs to buy new product to keep his YouTube channel fresh and relevant without going broke. And churning a good chunk of his collection will help him to exactly that.

I can appreciate what Chris is doing and I wish him the best, but the bottom line is that even if the items are NIB, Chris will likely encounter significant losses from the original value. Is this a correct assumption? It really all depends upon what he paid for the items , or if he paid for the items. With his affiliation with Trainz, who knows and they aren't saying. Nor does it matter to anyone other than Chris.

I can appreciate what Chris is doing and I wish him the best, but the bottom line is that even if the items are NIB, Chris will likely encounter significant losses from the original value. Is this a correct assumption? I’m at the show now, and you would not believe the premium asking prices that are WAY above MSRP on many items. So Trainz is really testing out the waters to see what the market will bear for the opportunity to own something from the collection of a well-known YouTube “celebrity” personality. Folks browsing in the booth seemed quite enamored with this whole scenario. So I’m curious how it’s all going to play out.
Now for some prices. Check ‘em out. Lionel’s first AC&W motive power: a Legacy F9 AB at $1,500 for a powered A and SuperBase B. Not even two powered units!!!
AC&W 18” passenger 2-pk for $700, and a 21” passenger 2-pk for $1600.
An MTH Big Boy at a Lionel VisionLine price-point: And last but not least… a Lionel Black Bonnet 2-10-10-2 for $3,600!!! Seriously folks… I don’t think pieces from the collection of the late, former Lionel owner and CEO Richard Kuhn fetched such premium prices!!! Go figure.

According to the email I received from TRAINZ today, they acquired the trains from Chris. So Chris has already sold the items. Trainz owns them. The email also says what doesn't sell at York will be available on their website after York

According to the email I received from TRAINZ today, they acquired the trains from Chris. So Chris has already sold the items. Trainz owns them. The email also says what doesn't sell at York will be available on their website after York That is consistent with Chris RBP's explanation to a few folks at York today as well. So he's effectively out of the transaction now between Trainz and buyers of the product for sale. It's now Trainz's show to move product. And I think they're gonna have a good time doing it... ask for the stars. And if somebody pays, they're way ahead on the deal. If not, then they'll lower the prices for goodies that don't sell at York.
Bottom line: Chris was happily signing certificates and talking to his YouTube subscribers and buyers who stopped by the Trainz booth. His part of the deal was done, before York even started.
