Most YouTube or internet influencers are legends in their own minds.
This hype that buying a train previously owned by Chris makes it an item to be coveted above all others is nonsense at the very least. As much as I have enjoyed my transactions with Trainz this Chris promotion borders on delusion and is clearly directed to those of a younger age who find this promotion relevant to real life.
I bought a Chris O gauge tinplate Union Pacific passenger set because it was stone mint, reasonably priced, not because Chris had handled it; rather in spite of it.
As I have stated previously on another OGF thread I took the certificate of authenticity to be polite.
This is all so much ado about nothing.
Oh and almost as a prayer answered, the latest hot flash from RPB Chris on YouTube is to assure all his fans that he is still into trains, is still married, the layout is still intact, he is not selling his bridge, and he just needs more new stuff to provide more virtual reality for his minions. Oh and see what I bought at York. Can this be any more juvenile?
Heh look at me I'm Sandra Dee!
I am personally so relieved. Gimme a break.
If the future of the model train hobby depends upon this drivel, switch hobbies.

If I had some of Traindiesel's trains I would put them under glass never to be touched just worshiped by me. I mean a written CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY with every purchase now is something I'll look for!! Expecting me to buy a train without it is just bizarre!!! Welcome to the new age!!

Wow, runamuckchuck, sounds like you have some very strong feelings about Chris and his trains. Did a pre-owned "Chris Special" break your heart, or are you just worried all these youngsters are having too much fun?
Because let's be honest, who wouldn't want a train blessed by the almighty Chris? Even you in your ivory tower looking down all these young guys still bought one of his trains. Looking at your consistent hate at RBP's promotion of our hobby we might assume you're a closet fan of decent content. It's not like there are countless other, equally awesome train sets out there, right? And who needs a reason to buy new trains? Clearly, the only valid motivation is pure, unadulterated train love, not some silly YouTuber existing.
But hey, at least you can sleep soundly knowing Chris is still happily married, hasn't sold his bridge (yet!), and is definitely not just churning out content to keep the "minions" engaged. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll keep enjoying our youngest generation engaging in the hobby though his media as opposed to your consistent negativity on all forums.

My trains are NOT to be imprisoned under any glass! And in what universe do you think you deserve my signature on my precious certificate?! I bought you lunch at York last October and I even let you super size it. Some people feel so entitled! Geez!

But real question, do you become a master member by putting people down and complaining about those that promote the hobby like RBP Trains? Seems to be that master member's go to whenever some young kid tries to do something productive. Back to the topic - Those engines are in fantastic condition and people will be lucky to add them to their collection. Chris mentioned he didn't price them, so those assuming he is price gouging are wrong. Trainz lists engines based on how they've sold recently, the model must work based on how much they've grown in the past few years.

I thought I was honoring your trains but apparently I was mistaken. I will do my penance today. From now on I will keep my thoughts to myself. ( yea that'll happen!! ) Btw I am entitled just like today's kids, SO THERE!!!! Your friend and worshipper, Dave

Membership titles are completely based on the number of posts the member has made. Type of post, quality of post, etc. have nothing to do with it.

"But real question, do you become a master member by putting people down and complaining about those that promote the hobby like RBP Trains? "
Sorry I dont buy that. RBP doesnt promote the hobby He promotes himself Its all about how many views, how many followers and how many likes. He talks to people on his video's like the audience is a bunch of idiots. Then again they might be is they paid 3000 for that Big boy at york They could have walked 50 feet and gotten the same exact engine brand new for half that price at NAssau Hobbies. When RBP gave away an engine last year, there had to be a major announcement with a video plastered all over the place. That doesnt seem genuine to me. Our club gives away an engine a year for the past 20 years Its not to get more views its because we are passionate about our hobby and community. The kids getting the engines do our promotion.

Membership titles are completely based on the number of posts the member has made. Type of post, quality of post, etc. have nothing to do with it. I'll let those involved with managing the forum software address this issue further as they see fit. But it's always been my impression that OGF is operating with a set of generic, default membership titles (i.e., new member, junior member, full member, senior member, master). If the titles could be eliminated from the member's info on each post, then it probably would have been done already -- the idea being we're all just one big group of enthusiasts posting about model trains here.
OTOH, since the forum software provides for this feature... I do like the idea of having titles that are more related to railroading, such as hostler, brakeman, conductor, engineer, trainmaster, yardmaster, etc... And I'm fine that those titles are based solely on thresholds of posting activity. But if there's a way membership titles could be specified in our profile by an administrator, I would request mine be "Lifetime Hobo" since I'm now semi-retired.

I’m kind of surprised that this thread has generated so many comments and such strong feelings. I don’t know RBP Chris, don’t subscribe to his channel, don’t particularly care why he’s selling some of his trains, and couldn’t care less how much people are willing (or not willing) to pay for them. None of this affects me or my enjoyment of the hobby in any way.
I don’t know why Chris does what he does. If making videos and having lots of subscribers and likes is how he enjoys the hobby I say good for him.
I don’t see how Trainz selling “Previously owned by RBP Chris” trains at premium prices harms anyone. The people buying them think they are worth the inflated prices. None of us are forced to participate in this sale. The market will determine how much trains previously owned by Chris are worth. It’s all OK by me and none of it affects me.
It’s much ado about nothing.

As I understand it here at OGF opinions of all kinds are welcome regardless of whether or not you agree with them. I look forward to agreeing with you or visa versa on some other topic in the future. Unfortunately on this particular matter we will have to agree to disagree.
