It will be interesting to see if the stuff sells for these prices.

I can appreciate what Chris is doing and I wish him the best, but the bottom line is that even if the items are NIB, Chris will likely encounter significant losses from the original value. Is this a correct assumption? Chris had significant losses the moment he bought an item. Just like the rest of us. But don't forget he's making money from YT, so that may offset some of the loss. I really have no idea what 50K subscribers can make you in terms of money. But it's like my old boss told me one time. We would go on travel to some big meeting and in the evenings 15 or so of us would go out to dinner. This was back in the 90's before it was commonplace to split checks. Henry would say, "Just pass your money down to me, I'll collect and pay". He would do this EVERY time we went to a big dinner. I asked him one time, "Henry, why do you always do this? You have to know you are taking a loss. People forget the drinks, the tax, the tip. You have to be short every time you pay". He said to me, "Ron, you are missing the bigger picture. I have here in my hands $600 and my wife Lucy pays the credit card bill sight unseen". Yes, Chris may have not got every dollar back. But he's sitting on a pile of cash to buy new stuff so he can make more videos. He knows exactly what he's doing. Ron

What was it that P.T. Barnum said?

P. T. Barnum Quotes
No man ever went broke overestimating the ignorance of the American public.
Many people are gullible, and we can expect this to continue.
There is a fool born every minute
The common man, no matter how sharp and tough, actually enjoys having the wool pulled over his eyes, and makes it easier for the puller.
You can fool most of the people most of the time.

Although I didn't capture a picture of it, Trainz had a $6,000 pricetag on an gold-plated MTH Big Boy with PS2.0 electronics inside. I wonder if it came with a BCR or super-capacitor for that price. LOL!!!
One thing is for certain though... Trainz seems to be having lots of fun lately -- even with their eBay pricing... often asking for the world. Sometimes they get it. And the worst thing that can happen is they lower the price a bit within a week or two. Life is apparently treating them very well.

Fortunately the one and only O gauge tinplate passenger set that I bought from this stash (unexpectedly) was priced well within reason. I guess that even the red headed stepchild get's lucky sometime. I took the certificate to be polite.

It takes only one fool to set a precedent. It takes only too such fools to set a trend.

I guess that even the red headed stepchild get's lucky sometime. I took the certificate to be polite. I did see a few -- and I mean VERY few -- items that seemed "reasonably" priced. But they were by far the exception. Most were definitely priced at a premium, as if the market would bear the up-charge just because it came from the collection of an affable YouTube personality. As I mentioned earlier, Dick Kughn's trains didn't typically fetch that kind of premium... and I'm not sure even Frank Sinatra's would have either. But then I'll be the first to admit I've NEVER been star-struck.

Ron 045 brings up an interesting aspect, that Chris lost money as soon as he bought the items. However that begs the question did he really? What if Trainz sold it to him at little above cost? What if Trainz provided him with a long term lend, or as part of his compensation arrangement with Trainz? Let me be clear this is not an accusation of wrong doing. It is a question.
It speaks to the greater question of conflict of interest at the very least which may or may not affect the objectivity of any influencer's videos dealing with product.
Those of us old enough to remember the Payola scandal in the recording industry when DJs were paid to play (the original source of that saying) a particular record so that it would chart higher than might otherwise have been the case.
In short I am very skeptical that the select few model train influencers (as opposed to content creators) are doing what they do solely for the benefit of others. If not for self aggrandizement, then money? If not money then perks? Hit Like. Hit Subscribe. Drive up the subscriber numbers. It really help helps my channel.
Does that sound like a labor of love to you?

Felt the price on the RBP trains were definitely on the high side. The upside is that they seemed well talken care of. Still pricey.. I think I heard Trainz took 5% for themselves. In any both buyers and seller seemed happy.

My take on all this is that maybe they do this, making videos, for fun. They have families and full time jobs and love the O gauge hobby. They make a small income on the side and have an affiliation with Trainz that may benefit them both in a small way. Chris’ reasons for selling his stuff, be it on consignment or he may have been paid already and Trainz took over with the promotion of the sale, is his business. If he has been paid already then Chis may be out of the equation. Whatever the arrangement it is obviously to both of their benefit. Chris gets more exposure, Trainz can say ‘We sold Chris’ trains, we can sell yours too!’
Shouldn’t matter to us. It’s no different than how dealers buy and exchange trains and resell them for their own profit. It happens before the opening of every York Meet. This is what Capitalism is all about. Celebrate it, we’re under no obligation to buy and nobody cares about being ridiculed about overpaying for trains. We’ve all done it, sometimes knowingly. Like anything else the customer must educate themselves to guard against overpaying for anything or take the chance they won’t have the chance to buy an item again. It took me 15 years to finally purchase the Lionel scale Penn Central GG1 for a price, and a dealer, I was comfortable with.

"A fool and his money are soon parted" isn't a quote from P.T. Barnum.......the quote is authored by a newspaper reporter who was amazed at how gullible people were to see the faked oddities that Barnum created!

Around a year ago Chris did a video at TrainZ. I think it was titled TrainZ, behind the scenes.
Until I saw this video I didn't know Trainz was as big an operation as they are. It was stated they have 70 employee's. Several warehouses and several trucks just to pick up collections that they buy. The warehouses were full of trains on pallets that have not been gone through yet. A very large parts department. I think they bought out some of the older parts dealerships.
I am guessing but I would say from what I saw that Trainz is a multi-million dollar operation.
During the video Chris picked out a large expensive Lionel boxed train set that he said he was buying.
