I'd like to see a breakout of the $170K (of course, we never will). UPS provides a defined pension plan, fully-paid health benefits, and post-retirement health coverage. There's also likely a profit-sharing plan and a few other things. According to NPR, "full- and part-time workers will get $2.75 more per hour in 2023, and $7.50 more per hour in total at the end of the five-year contract". That's a $15,600 annual raise for a full-time employee after five years. Not insignificant, but likely not quite the boon for employees UPS tried to paint it as. It's interesting to me that UPS is still desperately advertising for new hiring.

Brian, has UPS agreed to reimburse you above the declared value you put on the shipping form?

Brian, has UPS agreed to reimburse you above the declared value you put on the shipping form? The claim was just submitted yesterday and was requested by their corporate manager for full payment of the items I payed for that I submitted. Checking the claim today it displayed “Submitted for payment”. I have no idea how it will proceed other than what the claim updates say.

Last year I sent a Lionel KW transformer to a repairman in Minnesota to be repaired. He finished the repairs and sent it back to me by USPS. I prepaid him for priority shipping. Unfortunately, he sent it by regular shipping. The tracking number that the shipper (the transformer repairman) was given was not usable to track my package. After 5 days and no package, I was concerned that my package had not shown up. I contacted the Postmaster at my local post office. He could not track it with the tracking number assigned to the package. After ten days, I contacted the Postmaster again, and he indicated that he would use internal tracking methods to find my package. NO LUCK. After fifteen days, the Postmaster was as perplexed as me as to where my package was. At 17 days, the transformer showed up on my front porch (see attached picture). The box was extensively damaged, as was the transformer. Many parts were missing, and the transformer was ruined. If only the transformer could talk, it would have had quite a tale to tell about where all it had been! To this day, there is no way to determine where the package had been, and how it got damaged. I spent months contacting USPS Customer Service, to no avail. They indicated that no Priority Shipping was used, so no damages would be paid. My Postmaster said "throw it away, as it won't be paid for." Although I was very frustrated with USPS, my Postmaster has been a gem through the whole process. The repairman finally realized that his shipping method contributed to the problem, and made me a good deal on a Lionel ZW transformer. My reason for explaining this whole situation is to hopefully avoid anyone else experiencing this. By all means, ALWAYS ship by Priority if shipping on USPS. In closing, I will make someone a great deal on a boat anchor with a Lionel label on it! Attachments:

I am not sure whats worse, the ever decreasing quality of shipping and its ever increasing prices or not having the money to buy anything. Even with a solid working class income and benefits after paying the Mortgage, car, electric, gas, water, cable internet, DishTV, routine human and dog medical bills, car insurance, and a couple of credit cards. Not much left after state and federal tax and all the other deductions that leave you with only half your pay. My attitude is oh well, I just won't be contributing to a lousy economy created by "Suits" who despite all their degree's and experience have felt over the past four years the best way to fight inflation is to wreck the Middle Class to the point where they can no longer purchase most things except food. And even thats getting worse. I will be retiring soon, and when I do maybe things will get better.

I mailed a packet of documents by certified mail two weeks ago; the estimated delivery date was three days later. As of today, it's still undelivered to the local post office. There's a perceptible degradation in shipping services, despite the rapidly increasing cost. As one lowers the bar for hiring bodies to do the work, I suspect there's a corresponding decline in the quality of service. I'm going to give this a couple more days, than visit the post office I mailed the packet from. My expectations for any sort of favorable resolution are very low, lol.
