This afternoon, I ran a Lionel Scout 1060 (1961) w/ tender, flat car, and gondola on the Central Loop and Lionel SF 218 FA with two box cars on the inner part of the East Loop; just for fun and to tune three 153 contactors. This evening, I Braille labeled about 16 pieces of familiar rolling stock. My wife read the road names and numbers from two pieces – a Lionel 6656 Cattle Car (1950) and Wabash 3424 operating Brakeman box car (1956-58). Alfred Maybe, some serious runs tomorrow. What have YOU been running?

I am finally getting around to running trains. I still have more work to do on the layout however. Here is a 3 minute video of Lionel PRR 250 2-4-2 pulling hopper, tanker, and gondola and caboose on Central Loop. Lights and whistle are activated by controller inside covered bridge. When the coil is replaced in a Lionel 145 gateman, the whistle shack will be moved elsewhere but in parallel with the gateman. A Lionel SF 218 FA (although not in freight livery) is heading PRR 3484 operating car, 6464 B&O auto carrier, New Haven box car, and AT&SF caboose westbound on inner part of East Loop. The ringing bell signal sounds when a train enters/ leaves the track section that goes under the elevated track. The highway crossing gate is not in place beyond the elevated track. The spur switch and signal may not be visible in front of the bridge. To take the video, I fitted my speech-enabled phone on a tripod near the layout. I set it as best I thought to get a good line of sight. I had my wife check the video; and it seems that it may have included what I wanted to. Alfred youtu.be/SzzjCdhq8Ho

Alfred,
You got an excellent line of sight on this video. I really enjoyed it! Great train selection too.

I am pleased to report that my S2 Turbine has returned to service. After testing 2 phased Lionel 1034 transformers with accessories and UCs on the Central Loop, alternately with 1060 Scout and the Turbine, I reported that the Turbine stopped working (many futile trials). After letting it sit in its storage box for a few days (and after giving it a few vigorous up and down shakes), I tried it yesterday. It came to life just fine. I am not sure if I shook the E-Unit into working properly (not likely a loose wire) – I am not going to open it up to spray cleaner on it at this point. ) Here is a link to a 1-minute video I took with the Turbine heading a 3 box car consist with lighted NC5 PRR caboose (536417, 1953-1955). It is running North and then South on the West Loop (the accessories are not turned on.) I will admit that I did not adhere to proper whistle signals for train movement. That Turbine really makes a racket over o22 switches (I am pretty sure that the tracks are properly joined /level.). You can almost imagine chips of Bakelite spraying up – it’s a heavy loco. It does pretty good for an 86-year old unit (it’s the version with the gold 6200 on red keystone from 1946. Alfred youtu.be/ksWgu1cst2o

Love the sound of the whistle alfred, never heard one like it before. Then again, I haven't seen many older engines at all. Pretty cool!

Alfred, I'm glad to hear your 671 is back up and running. I kinda thought that the e-unit was stuck in neutral. Couple of "love taps" got her running. How did the problem with the front truck work out? Another old man running old trains!! Keep on keeping on...AATW Rob

Armyranger, The pilot truck is behaving. I found a gap in one of the outer rails and fixed it. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the stuck E-Unit. Running trains keeps us young. Alfred

Curtis, Those Lionel whistles are memorableNow that I am thinking more about it, I have to compare the sounds of some of the different tenders I have. I mentioned that I may have used the incorrect whistle signals; however, after listening to the clip again, I had it right - two blasts on start and one at stop. Alfred
