Rob, Good troubleshooting and advice. I will bring it to my repair guy. I don't generally do much in the way of 'repairs' now (never really got into it ). Although I would not mind removing the shell and doing internal cleaning and lubricating, I am not going to attempt it . I am now blind and don't want to chance screwing things up in this case. I do everything else in the hobby - track layout and operation, etc. I do wiring using a speech-enabled multimeter, Braille labels on wires, and crimping and heat shrink to replace soldering. I know my equipment by touch . I know my routes by feeling the hot bulbs on the switch controllers and having 'noise-making' accessories strategically placed on the layout (8 x 22 with 13 O22s, 2 sidings, one spur, a reversing elevated track section. I am having a great time, except now for the temporary loss of the 671. Alfred (I use screen access software to non-visually use my computer.) More power to you, glad to hear you still running trains.

It is remarkable and to be commended that you carry on with the hobby, and like the man says "more power to you."

Hey all, while I am stuck in 'modify and fix' mode, and have not been running trains, it would be great to hear about what you have been running. Alfred

Tonight I’m running a Lionel PRR Camelback passenger service with Williams passenger cars. Also is my very first engine that Santa got me in the early 70s. Lionel Cannonball Express delivering a load of soda in a Williams Stewart’s Root Beer boxcar.

Joe, very cool trains. Weren't you concerned about getting the root beer delivered on the Cannonball Express? Thanks for the update. Alfred

Joe, What transformer(s) are you using? I’ve got idle mixed freight consists parked at two locations on the layout b/c I’m still working on the railroad, so to speak. I just finished installing a shelf under the layout with a 1034 to supply the Central Loop UCS, 125 whistle shack, 145 gateman, and interior lights in the covered bridge. The 1014 supplies the 262 highway crossing gate and a ringing bell signal. Trains run off a KW (A or B for the whole layout, or A for the East Loop and B for the West Loop. Another 1034 runs the train on the Central Loop. A V transformer supplies 45 gateman and 362 barrel loader on A, 2 UCS on B, 7 O22s on C for the West Loop, and 5 O22s on D for the East Loop (the 13th o22 is on toggled track power with the UCS on the spur.) Using an MTH for track 1 and a Lionel Transformer for track 2. The 1990s T-formers are for ascessories and the trolley. I have a Williams T-former but not using it yet.

How about what’s off the tracks.
A couple of weeks back I decided to squeeze in one more running session before starting the Christmas undecorating. I usually run four trains at once on four separate loops using my Cab 2 and often do this from outside the layout. The cab 2 has a function that lets you toggle back and forth between two trains but when I’m running four trains I just scroll through my locomotive menu to select the train I want to address. I had already shut down the two trains on the passenger loops and was shutting down the two on the freight level when I heard a train screaming along the tracks. I began to frantically scroll through the locomotive menu to wind down the NYC GP7. After the damage was done and I surveyed the carnage, it occurred to me in my infinite wisdom use the kill switch MISTER ENGINEER.

On the tracks for me right now is my B&M MTH SW9 and Lionel Postwar F-Unit oddball pair pulling a passenger consist. I also have my MTH NYC RS3 freight consist on the lower inner loop. On the top level loop I have the Lionel LionChief 2.0 SantaFe Berkshire with silver passenger cars. This is my favorite combo of trains.

Adam, Really nice trains. The Berkshire/ Silver combination is a classic. We have similar likes - my own favorite (from the kid era) is 736 Berkshire and Silver Series passenger consist. I have not run that combo in decades (although i had my son do a photo of it for LOTS Switcher.) In June I had the 736 tuned up; however, I have not had the courage to run it yet. I can't bring myself to do this until I have the track system just right. Alfred

This afternoon, I finally got my hand on the throttle to test the last few fixes/ changes. Ran two test trains - on the inner part of the East Loop - just a Lionel 218 FA, to check the ringing bell signal and also the 262 highway crossing gate. On the independent Central Loop - a Scout, tender and two cars - lights in the covered bridge and the whistle shack works fine - once the new coil in the 145 Gateman is in, it will get into the parallel circuit. Really nice to hear the trains and confirm that the wiring is OK. Full consists shortly. Alfred What have you been running lately.
