I am new to DCS engines only because MTH products were hard to see in action here in the Detroit area. Lionel was always the mainstay when the factory was here in Mount Clemens. Now that I have been frequenting York, and with help from colleagues here in our club, Running MTH engines is a new experience. What is your favorite MTH engine?

I don't have any MTH engines, but some of my club members have some nice ones. Are you going to York next month?

JDaddy, Welcome to OGF.
This is my only MTH engine. Amtrak Genesis. I do not have DCS and converted this to EER to run on Legacy. I like the variety of offerings from MTH and someday I will install DCS.

I have a few MTH engines, all Railking. I like Railking a for a few reasons. First, I have O36 curves on my lower main and O31 on the upper. Railking engines handle these curves with ease. The second reason is that they are in my price range. I can't justify spending a thousand dollars or more on a locomotive.
The Commodore Vanderbilt is my favorite because I had a pre-war Lionel CV when I was a boy so I have a sentimental connection to it, and then I just like the lines.

Hey Joe - Nice Commodore. You would be surprised on prices for used MTH engines- that little Proto 2/3 0-6-0 switcher was only 140 dollars. It needed some traction tires, a battery, and some tightening of the driver screws, and AWAY it went! Great sound and whistle for this little guy.

Denny, I have plans to go to York. However, I am between jobs right now and that may say no days off, but you never know.

Wood - nice overhead track - and nice looking layout. This is a MTH U50C standing in pulling some 21 inch K line UP cars...

I haven't bought any used Premier locomotives since most won't run on O36 curves. I recently found this PRR Imperial Mikado at a local train show for $225. It has PS3, looks almost new and runs great.

My layout has added several DCS engines to the roster. I find that largely the two systems get along very well and allow you to enjoy the best from each company.

JDaddy, I always enjoyed your posts on another place. Very glad indeed to see you here. I have been running DCS and Legacy (before that TMCC) together practically from the point I started with command control. I have managed to avoid conflicts between the two systems - by dumb luck I guess. On the other hand I have encountered most of their individual failings including all the DCS "Engine not on track!" madness. Oh and then there's Lionel's ground plane fallibility. Anyway, my little fleet is by a wide margin mostly Lionel. But the MTH engines I have are among my favorites. Tops among them is the 3x smoke unit UP80 Coal Turbine set, known as Ol' Smoky in my household for obvious reasons. After that, it's the Erie Triplex steamer. Why, I like that one so much I might get a new version! (As if - just dreaming.) Actually, this photo is of the MTH HO version; the O scale one is a brute.
