Friday the crew moved the crane to the front to begin the final phase, construction of the front section. First the rear smokestacks must be installed and final roof adjustments made. Last night, Paula and I went thru the interior necessities required for a roundhouse of this quality (N and W has very high standards) and also interviewed the prospective roundhouse crew members. What we believed to be a significant number of accessories were painted and ready for placement. They were gone in 2 1/2 stalls with about 10 pieces per stall used. So now we are into our reserve that we had hoped could be used in other buildings and may need to requisition additional items ($$$$$). In addition, they have to be painted. 7 stalls requires a lot. Photos are not final and are used to locate problems. Now is the time to correct them. Tomorrow morning Roundhouse Crew A reports for work at 7:00. Crew A has about 40 men. It will be interesting to see what the actual requirements are.

Wow Bill, it’s looking really good. Looking at some of those photos, I’d swear this as a real building if I didn’t know it was a model.

The last few days we have worked painting figures and interior detail. We ran out of painted detail stuff and had a fair amount of unpainted items. Most of those that are useful in a roundhouse are now painted. Do we have enough... no idea. 4-5 years ago someone on another forum was selling painted and unpainted Arttista figures that had belonged to his Dad along with other stuff. We made him an offer for all of it and it was accepted. We went thru the unpainted figures that are suitable for a roundhouse and have been painting them also. Yesterday Alice, Logan, and Austin, came for lunch, late birthday, and Easter celebrations. We ran trains for over an hour. The last thing we did was assemble some of Andre’s (River Leaf Models) cable reels that he had made for Austin several years ago. Typical Andre, always helping people and making them feel special. Sure do miss him. The boys stained the various parts and soon, with a bit of glue, 6 cable reels appeared. I told them to look for their photos on the Forum. Logan Austin Completed reels ready for the layout

Installing the snow blanket, and cutting and fitting it where needed. Track does not sit on the blanket for obvious reasons that is why the blanket has to be cut around the track.

Rich came over this afternoon and we worked on vents for the roof; each stall will have two vents and a rear smokestack. We looked at the rear stacks. They are tall and it will be difficult to get seven stacks exactly straight and keep them that way. So we decided to do them last. The front section has not been built so that left the clerestory. We got out the sander, calculated the angle, set the sander to that angle, and sanded the seven vents. They can be attached and weathered when we weather the clerestory roof. Photos captured this delicate job. Seven completed vents

......Photos captured this delicate job. Bill, beautiful and detailed work on your roundhouse!! All the work will pay off when you enjoy pulling locomotives onto the turntable. Thanks for sharing your progress!
I have two roundhouses to build from Ross Custom Switches. But I'm going to wait for the layout building to be done 'cause there's nowhere in the house to safely keep them if I build them now.

Thanks guys. Tom we have not cleaned since Christmas. As soon as we burn the roundhouse parts box we will have a clean-up week. I don’t think there are any parts left in the box so we must be close Brian I have no idea how complicated your roundhouse is. With ours, over half the work was assembling parts that fit back in the box. You may be able to get a lot done. Have you met with the City about the train palace? LATEST UPDATE Engineers latest update on progress as of 15:00 hours April 15 Front section construction begins: Yesterday Doc Holden arrived and construction was begun on Roundhouse Stall 7. The outer section including roll-up door was completed. Today three additional frames were constructed for stalls 1, 3, and 5. The even numbered stalls are formed when beams connect the odd numbered ones. The stall 1 section was test fitted adjacent to the left door assembly and everything fit properly. Unfortunately the interior engineer Paula started the interior work with stall 7 and the front section will be easier assembled beginning with stall 1 so further front section construction is held up pending completion by the interior staff. Lighting parts are scheduled to be received tomorrow from Evans Design. New staff was hired yesterday and Mr. Arttista assured Paula that these are more than competent people. One additional group of interior parts is expected momentarily from another source. The roofing crew reports that vents have been completed and installed in the clerestory. Progress is also being made on the stacks which will remove smoke from fired up locomotives. Fans arrived several days ago and stacks are being assembled. Management still refused to give an estimated completion date of construction however several rumors have been heard around town about a planned celebration.
