This is one shot of an older conversion. It is a later 675 pilot assembly with cast in knuckle, which I do not like using. Maybe some day I'll take the pilot off and wok the remains of the knuckle off. This has a functional (not operational) front coupler, as do all my 225E's and 675 variants. These also have 225E boilers installed, with feedwater heaters ground and filed off. Lettered Northern Pacific. This older unit (probably done 40 years or more ago) was before I used smokebox mounted bells. Has cab back, has vertical grab irons, back of cab, safety white, as well as on tender. The coupler was an experiment, not as close as normal to end beam. Used a standard PT-1 coupler head, usually use an old coil coupler, wires removed, extension cut off, but this works. Attachments:

Wood very nice. Some of that space cries for some Sunset engines to lead the pack. Maybe a pair of Santa Fe EMC E1s, a So Pacific S-12 0-6-0 switcher, or a pair of Virginian EL-2B electrics..
Better yet, call Scott and cut a deal. Presto, problem solved, shelves filled.
Your new shelves look wonderful. I am with the group admiring the basement. Basements just call out “Trains.”

Very nice. Would love to see how you did it. Bill I may have misunderstood this post of yours was ment for ScaleCraft. I'll leave it, just so you know how I did the shelfs.Bill, look on page 50 of this thead. I showed pictures of the legs of the table, reinforced the legs with cross members, slapped a painted 2'x12' 5/8" ply on the legs, surrounded it with a top, sides and bottom. All careully measured out. Ordered 8 6' shelves from Glenn Snyder, cut them to exact length with a band saw, connected with roll pins and leveled the first shelf off on the botton. Added the next 3 shelves in 6" inch heights and screwed them with #10 x 3/4' round head sheet metal screws. Bada Bom Bada Bang... Now moving on to engines. It should be abundently apparent I have way too many F3's. Gotta start looking.

Wood, the new shelves look great by themselves and even better with trains. 👍

Thanks Wood.. Are you going to light them?
I plan to share your technique with Charles. He was talking about more shelves and there is space.

There is a plan to use LED strip lights and to put sliding glass doors on the front. I left enough of a ledge to accomodate. At the moment I have stalled on both ideas. The LED lights would overwhelm the display and detract from the layout and the doors would hinder swapping out trains. I think I am going to pass on both.

Wood, your shelving looks attractive and practical. I too, would pass on the lighting and sliding doors. 😉

Wood, your shelving looks attractive and practical. I too, would pass on the lighting and sliding doors. 😉 I agree although the mere chance to do it would be a fine thing IMHO. I had LED lighting put in my display cabinet. It had to have a dimmer control because at full illumination it’s just too bright - looks too much like a retail/jewellery/museum display. Also it needs to be positioned carefully so you don’t get any dark/blind spots. But the dimmer does work well for my purposes. (The trains don’t occupy the whole cabinet but most of it, the rest being other collectibles.) As you have solid shelves a strip could be put along the bottom of each to light the one below but I think you’d really find the extra lighting pretty intrusive.

There is a light across from the shelves and it gives pretty good light. Gonna leave it alone. Display shelves are nice, if you are a collector, but they are not what this layout is all about.

I think lighting the shelves would detract from the layout lighting and I agree that sliding glass doors, while they would protect the trains on the shelves, would make it much more difficult to take trains on and off the shelves.

I added another 8ft long by 2ft wide section to the layout. I plan on a large diorama but may have a trolley going back and forth..... Here's the beginning of the new section. The woodland scenics fence adds a lot to the yard area. Need to do some touch up but im happy how the cobblestone came out.
