It seems very soon you will have to pay them to belong to that other forum. You will have to become a digital subscriber or a supporting member. If not your gone!!!
Yes we ask for donations but we don't ban anybody who don't want to or cannot donate. We welcome everybody.
This pay to play is abhorrent to my way of thinking and I bet it will be to alot of the members at that other forum.
Sorry to have report this but it is from the publishers own words,
Dave

So let me understand this correctly... they've been selling ad space on that forum... presumably because there are so many members that dealers and industry suppliers would want the exposure. And now these folks wanna charge their forum membership to help them make money??? Seems it should be the other way-around... namely, they should be paying their membership.
Why am I not surprised at this latest development???

I heard the same thing. They will soon announce that all members must be digital subscribers or supporting members. I'm glad I'm not a member there any more. They deactivated my account quite a while ago.
As you said Dave, we ask for and appreciate all donations but they are not required, plus we have no advertisers.

When this news reaches the York Meet attendees, it will be the talk of the town. There probably will be more on the menu for their breakfast tomorrow morning than fried bacon.

"And their York contest, pure genius, offer prizes to walk around wearing their logo. All free advertising, and the cost, a few trinkets, better than paying for booth."
After learning of this news, some may change their mind about their attire, Jim.

After learning of this news, some may change their mind about their attire, Jim. Well then those people shouldn't be walking around since they are not a sponsor

Just goes to show it was all about the money and not the hobby. No big surprise here.

Hah! Don't believe that a paid subscription will keep you there either - I got booted the week after I paid a digital subscription and a supporting donation. I stopped requesting a refund after getting a couple of long condescending email lectures - no point in arguing with anyone who seems to be enjoying it. Anyway, good luck to them Dave

I Still am on that other forum. Right now you can still be a member for free. You can be a supporting member at $12 per year, and you can get a digital subscription, but you don’t have to do either one. I’m very skeptical that it will be mandatory.

All:
I had not heard this.
What is the source of this information? Can someone verify this?
It strikes me as particularly short-sighted. The OGR forum is their prime marketing / advertising tool. Forcing members to pay for it seems counter-productive.

That’s very disappointing. A smart and dumb business model. It will fail when it’s announced and several members leave. They won’t pay to use that forum. I haven’t been active on that forum that much because of the heavy moderation and it has gone considerably down hill. After the passings of Barry B and Marty F, I’ve lost interest to look in on that forum.
