Did anyone pickup the New Lionel Legacy Trainmaster locomotive. They have just hit the streets and my LHS sold out in one week.
Does anyone have a video? Photos?
I like this one, the PRR and the Virginian!
These have the new 5 select-a-horn sound chips. Thoughts?

Black Widow version, always a good choice. Trainmasters are always popular, so I am not surprised that they are moving off the shelves.
In have the first one that I purchased as a kid (the first Lionel issue).

I have one I bought in 1979---Southern Pacific. At the time it was the largest engine I ever bought.

<<TRIVIA ALERT>>
That SP "black widow" is always a popular seller, because it's a throwback to a prototype which the Lionel Corporation made for the 1954 Toy Fair... but never brought into production if my memory serves me correctly. Then Lionel (General Mills) catalog'd and delivered the black widow FM along with a yellow/blue Virginian FM in their 1979 catalog.
Back in those days, I think the street price for Lionel FM's was close to $150 or so. But as was often the case in that "collector era", stuff that was produced in low quantities QUICKLY shot through the roof. And that Black Widow price soared over $600 -- a pretty hefty amount for a conventional control loco in its day.
As I recall, the only other Lionel FM that was more rare than the black widow was a Wabash model that was only available through the JC Penny catalog. Collector-mania of that era pushed the price of the JC Penny FM as high as $1,400 after JCP sold out its inventory. And again, back in the early 1980's that was beau coup $$$ for a conventional loco. But as a point of reference, the original Lionel post-war FM's in the same time-period were pushing $500.... and those locos originally went for a street price of $55 or so even as late as the mid-1960's. As a kid, I had my eye on the yellow/blue Virginian back in the day (1966), but I couldn't afford the $55 at the time. I'm gonna guess my Dad made $75/wk in those days as an accountant. So $55.00 for toy trains was pushing it.

Never was a fan of the FM Train Master, or any FM diesels for that matter. Just didn't care for its long length and Neanderthal boxy look. I like the EMD and GE diesels better. But then hey, maybe that's just me. 😉

They are big and boxy Vern. For me it is the LACKAWANNA livery. Plus we have stayed at the LACKAWANNA HOTEL in Scranton PA. Beautiful place!! Make a trek to York after everything opens back up and hit STEAMTOWN in Scranton as well! Well worth the trip.
Gary.

so you didn't buy one ? John you are slipping... It would look good in front of the OGF car.. It all depends on what "hill" you want to die on. The wife is already gunning for me that I spent my monies on the new legacy 0-6-0, it was a great deal with the new sound chips coming in. Just wondered if it was worth the risk spending more money on this one …

I've already have a MTH Trainmaster in the fleet and a couple other FM's. So my wallet is safe this time.
