It is definitely from the Lionel 1950 catalog as evidenced from this Worthpoint auction I found. It features the third photo from the torn catalog pages you posted above. Hope this helps. -Pete 1950 it is. Excellent. Thank you.

Makes me wonder if something wasn't operating correctly and he was going to have it looked at?

That is a really neat find Emile. Very cool that so much paperwork was included.
Maybe the engine was indeed refurbished by that business?

Makes me wonder if something was operating correctly and he was going to have it looked at? We'll be finding that out very soon. The restoration starts next.

If it wasn't refurbished, he was probably giving it consideration. When we get it open maybe there will be a couple of more modern parts inside to lets us know if was refurbished. It will be fun to find out.

French's Trains!! I was there once eons ago with my grandfather. Don't remember much, but I had some money saved up and treated myself to a KMT Schlitz boxcar and a Lionel depressed center flat car with bridge girders. I couldn't quite afford both, so of course grandpop bailed me out. Still have both cars.
This is an interesting trip so far.

FRENCH'S TRAIN & HOBBIES was opened in 1904 in downtown Baltimore by Howard French and Warren Wimmer. Following the retirement of Howard French in 1949, the store was run over by Warren Wimmer and his son Warren. When the elder Warren Wimmer died, his son Warren Wimmer continued to operate the business until his own death in 1978. That year, George Stanton and Harry Bessinger took over the store and subsequently moved it to Dundalk in 1984. FRENCH'S TRAIN & HOBBIES closed for good in 2005.
The business card found in our set for FRENCH'S TRAIN & HOBBIES has the Dundalk address meaning Mr. D must have visited the store no earlier than 1984. Mr. D passed away in 1993, so the window of his intended restoration should be between 1984 and 1993.

These three date back to 1945 and 1946 and were just recently discovered in the late Mr. D’s garage and were part of his collection. Mrs. D found them and because she is aware of this Forum and particularly this thread, she passed them on to Andrew, who passed them on to me, so I could share them with everyone. Mrs. D and Andrew are genuinely thoughtful and generous people. We’re all lucky to have them as part of our community.

Emile,
Were you able to get the turbine engine into working order? I forgot about this saga but your email with the wonderful books brought us back into the story.

Emile, Were you able to get the turbine engine into working order? I forgot about this saga but your email with the wonderful books brought us back into the story. I haven't reach the point of restoration but could start at any time. That is going to be fun and I plan to chronicle the process in this thread.
