Every post regardless whether it is an original or a reply to a thread counts. Now onto 40K as quickly as possible. Ditto, ditto, ditto.

I think it's intended to be a measure of participation, not necessarily content provided/introduced. Seems a worthwhile measure to me. Now "views", not sure what that provides.

I think the method of only counting original threads to determine membership status is the correct way to judge participation. If this forum starts to count replies some new members will have thousands within a short period of time. A good example is to look at some other forums where members have counts in the tens of thousands after only being members for a short period of time. Many of those posts are simply restating the original thread or a reply like “ditto”. Couldn't disagree more. Participation is participation is participation. Sure, the "atta boy" echoes are of little value IMHO, but a well-reasoned and documented response is often "worth" much more than a simple one-line question from an OP. If the purpose of such a rule is to encourage a vibrant dialog, discounting/ignoring the contributions of responders is a sure-fire way to discourage meaningful back and forth discussion, or at least fail to reward it when it happens. What value a chorus line of soapbox orators if there's no responsive audience?

What value a chorus line of soapbox orators if there's no responsive audience? Well this is truly a moot point. From now on in order to expand on my membership status it is going to be Ditto, ditto ditto until I get to the 40K status. It sounds stupid but as far as I’m concerned those who have thousands of posts have not done much except take up bandwidth. Eventually this forum will have reached a storage limit and will have to do something.

It's a forum...you're supposed to have conversation, i.e. responses. I suppose "ditto" could be taken as concurrence with a prior post in the thread.
I would hope people aren't just running up their "posts" for narcissistic reasons.

It's not like a gold medal competition or competing for a cash prize . . . 🤑

Oof! why the anchor? I am not seeing any rude comments. That is an EXCELLENT question! It’s a form of soft censorship.

If it's a short a answer like "ditto" I don't like it but sometimes its all someone has to say. I have never seen it as a reason to disparage someone though!!
One thing I do not like is know it all's and people who don't like what you collect or buy. The MTF have a few who can't stand a few of us who talk about Menards products. You can almost bet when one of us discusses something about Menards he will post a snide remark. Another I believe was so upset we discussed Menards he left the MTF all together!! Why? I just don't get it. Its a 3 rail forum. I have been on these forums since the beginning and after them I learned to have a thick skin but some people just don't get it. I'm here to learn and have fun and sometimes argue my thoughts and things I believe in. I may be a P.I.T.A. Sometimes but I believe what I post. I like to believe here that we are all friends and love the hobby of O gauge railroading.

Boy! This thread is suffering from bloating and thread-drift! I think that the point has been made.

Anchors? Sinking?
Did I miss something or is this the wrong forum?
I have no idea of the significance of these remarks; and no I am not trying to drive up my post count.

When the forum moderators want to kill a thread but don’t want look like they are engaging in censorship, they will stick an anchor on the thread so it continues to sink.
