I have known the guy who started this forum for A long time and I Dont think we have to be bigger than OGR to have a great forum. The Forum that PTC and a few others started is one of the few I belong to now. Ogr is in my past and I want to leave it there. Myself and many others who visit this forum like the way it is going, there is always room for improvement. Anybody at anytime can talk about any subject they are interested in. Of course this a model train forum but we want to know about your lives, interests, family and if Paul from near Coatsville, Pa who was deleted over at Ogr wants to become a member of the OGF please come on board. We would be pleased to have such a great guy, modeller and a great person. Trains have helped me thru some tough times and I'm sure it has helped many others.
Lets make this forum better together, if you have a idea or something that you would like to see, start it and see who follows. Atsda started a monthly birthday celebration, I'm waiting for November so I can add my name. Dave (Rockymountain) keeps us abreast of what is coming, thoughts on new products and issues that pop up. Harborbelt70 Who starts the weekly photo thread along with a history of his trains, I look forward to it each week. Ron045 who keeps us informed of a project he is doing! (Wish I had his skills)
We even have a few Canadian guys here, I would like to see some more Canadian modeling.
The above are just a few of the guys that make this forum one of the best.
Dave

I thought this thread was about the sale of Kalmbach Media to Firecrown media. Perhaps your attempt at a reset will suffice. However in the absence of additional official announcements from Firecrown this thread is likely to go dormant for awhile unless folks would like to continue to speculate about the future or reminisce about Kalmbach.

You know guys we can talk about two things, believe it or not. I'm not sure about Traindiesel though!! Dave Dave, you’re confused about a lot of things!
But ok, then whadda ya want to talk about?
How about those Phillies!! It’s hittin’ season!
Will Mystic Dan run in the Preakness or will his trainers rest him to run at Belmont?
Cody Rhodes retained the WWE Championship this past weekend. Who will be the next challenger?
How should the 76ers utilize their salary cap space to build around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey?
Can the Eagles 2024 draft picks transform their secondary?
So much to talk about!

I thought this thread was about the sale of Kalmbach Media to Firecrown media. it was, but OGR as normal got dragged into it, I think someone mentioned that OGR wasn’t covering this story. It turns out that OGr did cover the sale of Kalmbach but with OGR being OGR, the thread was licked down in an hour. So that’s how OGR became part of this thread.

I even went to look for it and had gone about 4 pages in and didn't see anything.

The sale of the Kalmbach assets to a newer entity may have a positive effect. There’s a good online resource for scale modelers (mostly HO & N)called Model Railroad Hobbyist that encompasses the whole online/publishing/forum aspects of the magazine trade IMHO. You can host a layout build blog, contribute to a forum and read the magazine for free. Advertising pays the bills I guess, and there are in-depth articles. Anyway, these guys seem to have something that works with the forum/blog areas providing a critical mass of readers for the magazine. Maybe this is the way things are going as we watch the death of both paper publications and subscriptions. Dave

Here's an article on the transaction by the man himself, Craig Fuller, CEO of Firecrown, the acquiring company: www.freightwaves.com/news/firecrown-media-grows-again-with-addition-of-trains-astronomy. Fuller says he's passionate about transportation (including railroading and aviation) and space, and he seems to have some ideas on how to make the legacy Kalmbach brands successful in the digital age. Also, he states: "Firecrown plans to retain all [emphasis added] of the editorial and content resources of the former Kalmbach Media brands and open a new office in Wisconsin to accommodate the teams currently working on them." Sounds like CTT will continue... In the article Keith posted Mr. Fuller also mentions: I love all things transportation — trucks, airplanes, boats and trains.
I’ve always been fascinated by how people and products move. This is really in my blood. While I grew up around trucks, I also had a deep love for trains. I’ve built my share of model railroad layouts and even had the chance to work around the rail industry — first in intermodal operations at U.S. Xpress and then through my work at FreightWaves.
Also, *There isn’t a deeper connection in the rail enthusiast community than the one that Kalmbach built. The Firecrown staff will work diligently to continue and build on that connection moving forward.
*With the acquisition, Firecrown plans to invest significantly in Trains’ business editorial coverage, increasing the cadence and depth of coverage of the rail industry. FreightWaves, one of Firecrown’s brands, provides a playbook to help achieve this.
*There will be a substantial increase in daily update videos, news content and analysis, virtual events and business analysis for the rail industry, modeled after the FreightWaves media brand’s success covering the logistics industry.
*Firecrown plans to expand the product lineup at Kalmbach’s hobby store (which will be rebranded) to include a greater selection of railroad-fan merchandise.
I believe the former Kalmbach publications are in good hands!

Back to the original topic, Bob Keller posted this on CTT forum this morning.
"Anyone concerned about the future of the magazine, this was posted by the new owner on X/Twitter.
In recent days, I’ve received a number of questions about our intentions with the Kalmbach hobby brands, including Model Railroader. Firecrown is fully committed to investing in the hobby community, as we are an enthusiast brand first. Nearly 90% of Firecrown’s revenues come from the enthusiast category, including our marine and aviation titles. We currently have 3 LOIs for acquisitions in the enthusiast category tee’d up. I can only assume that Kalmbach’s competitors are threatened by an aggressive and ambitious firm that has taken over the largest player in the space that propagate rumors that we plan to shutter Kalmbach’s hobby brands. Nothing could be further from the truth. We play to win and don’t need the practice. We wouldn’t have acquired the Kalmbach brands if we weren’t committed to making significant investments in the brands and community."
