I’ve had these two Kato FEC ES44s for a while. I installed Digitrax decoders in them a month or two ago. Each one pulled a train on my double track mainline since they are the only two locomotives that I have running right now. When I get some new locomotives I want to run the ES44s together the way I see them running through town. These locomotives run way too fast so I played with the CVs so that they run about 70 smph at full throttle. I tweaked the CVs by trial and error so both engines run the same and double headed them to lead my double stack train. I do see the appeal of being able to adjust CVs and at one stage I was able to do it with HO stuff. Haven't done anything of that kind for a few years but I am hoping to pick up the hang of it again soon. Adjusting CVs is pretty easy with my Lenz system. I would imagine that other brands aren’t that difficult either. One of the things I really like about DCC is the compatibility between different brands.

I am working on this station kit. This is the tools I’m using and early work on the walls. The walls assembled. I’m working on the air conditioning units and prepping the roof. More to come.

Next up is this Cape Cod house. The kit comes with 2 roof sets, 1 with dormers and 1 without, 2 different front walls, 1 with 2 windows and another with 3, 2 front doors, and optional shutters. I will have to paint the walls since the walls, shutters, windows and doors are all molded in the same color. I have the parts laid out but can’t start until I decide what color to paint the walls and if I want to paint the windows, doors and shutters. So many decisions to make.

Nice buildings. I put together a few HO structures some years ago but never did anything with them. Obviously so much more is possible in smaller scales if like me you lack space for both structures and trains.

A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine dropped off (dumped) a box with an MPC set in it, along with a bunch of other odds-n-ends. Way down in the bottom was a LifeLike UP stockcar...N-gauge...it's a conspiracy, I tell ya At least it has the old Rapido style couplers on it.

If you get some newer engines and rolling stock you can make a couple transition cars that have a Rapido coupler on one end and a knuckle coupler on the other end. Some guys do that so they can run older and newer equipment together.

Yup, but if I can stand by the absurd notion of only considering equipment with Rapido-style couplers, that blots out all of the new offerings and limits one to the secondary market. Way less opportunity to return to the N worm-hole, and way less expensive should I fall into it. If...more like when.

The cape cod is done but it needs a chimney. I was test fitting the chimney and dropped it. I haven’t been able to find it thus far. I have a plan B just in case it’s gone forever. In any event, here’s the house. Next up is this ranch house. I lost a chimney once from an "N" scale kit. Made one of I believed was close balsa wood. Some brick scribing, small opening with drill and exacto, paint, no one ever notice including the guy I gave it to when I quit "N".

The ranch house is done. I still have this Dairy Queen to build but I’m going to work on my T-Trak modules because we have a train show on June 1st and I need to get at least some scenery done so it’s not just track on plywood.
Here’s the house
and the Dairy Queen

The DQ is done. The roof is not glued on so I can add a couple of workers inside and maybe lighting as well.
I found the chimney that was dropped on the floor a few days ago and it’s now where it belongs.

Joe, you’re tugging on my N scale strings! A little while ago I subscribed to Broadway Limited’s emails and it’s got me thinking about N scale again. The stuff they’re coming out with is amazing!
