Very good, Joe; keep at it...I find it very interesting. N-gauge was my first love and I’ve retained quite a lot of it, all stored away. I got distracted by S and O-gauge when The Old Man retired, trying to help him rekindle his interest. I stumbled into prewar O at that time and have been involved with that for some thirty years, but I can envision a day when I’ll drop back to something a bit less space-challenged and N would seem a very good choice. Thanks for keeping us apprised of your progress.

I’ve had these two Kato FEC ES44s for a while. I installed Digitrax decoders in them a month or two ago. Each one pulled a train on my double track mainline since they are the only two locomotives that I have running right now. Atlas FEC GP40-2s are due in this month and Broadway Limited Imports FEC SD70s in the blue and yellow “Alaska” paint scheme are supposed to arrive in June so my locomotive roster will be growing soon. When I get some new locomotives I want to run the ES44s together the way I see them running through town. These locomotives run way too fast so I played with the CVs so that they run about 70 smph at full throttle. I tweaked the CVs by trial and error so both engines run the same and double headed them to lead my double stack train.

Going with a smaller scale to have more room and, well, to lower costs certainly is tempting. Not sure I will ever do it, but not off the table.

I enjoy operations which are easier to do in the smaller scales. If I had a bit more space I might have gone with HO but maybe not. It would have been a difficult decision, HO or N?

Plenty of great benchwork things here that translate over to the "O" gauge part of the hobby! And layout ideas and designs aren't limited by gauge or scale. Only by the imagination!

***PUBLIC SERVICE ADVISERY**
I will advise everyone to learn from my mistake.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, look up prices for N-Gauge trains.
Oh boy, what a difference!!

Adam, why didn't you post that earlier? I have been looking at the the N scale available and boy am I jealous!! So many products and the prices make the move to N scale so tempting. But at my age I'm not sure I would do that. But it is very tempting! Seeing the pictures Joe has been posting makes it look even better.
Don't get me wrong I love O gauge but my thoughts keep me thinking of moving to another gauge and two reasons I would, fit more in the space I have and of course cheaper!! Ah!!! You never know.

Dave Stop talking crazy. We love our O-Gauge! Yes, we pay 10 times the price, but then again, our toy trains are 3 times the size of N. Wait a minute...

When I set up my N scale back in the 1970s I preferred it over HO. I always envisioned building a half a planet in N!! Someday I’ll build an N scale layout in addition to my O gauge. I have too much O gauge to fully switch but I could add nicely to the N scale I have. Maybe even a small HO layout too.
Keep this up and we’re gonna need to add an N scale forum!!

Could this place turn into…… The NOGF?? !!

HOSTILE TAKEOVER. They did have MTF sew on badges made for their clothes. Had their own diner and get together at York with special invited guest speaker. What was that guys name. Oh Yeah, Harry Hieke...
But then something happened. They got upset about something. I think it had something to do with where you could post Birthday wishes ? I wonder what happened to all those MTF sew on badges. LOL
It's like some of them flip flop like pancake on steroids.

I do see the appeal of being able to adjust CVs and at one stage I was able to do it with HO stuff. Haven't done anything of that kind for a few years but I am hoping to pick up the hang of it again soon.
