Good evening, anyone going to the Amherst Train show in Springfield MA at the end of the month? Have you gone before and do you really need 2 days for it? Can you do the show in 1 day?
I am planning on going. I never been to that one before. From what I hear it’s bigger then York PA

I am going and I went there for the first time last year. Its a huge show and it has a huge O gauge presence with Lionel, Atlas, MTH represented as well as large O gauge retailers. You will walk out with something!

I've been there several times. I find 1 day is enough, but the first time I went I could have used another few hours. I think it depends on how you like to enjoy the shows, how fast you move, etc. There is a lot to see and do.

Madockawando, It does NOT have a huge presence of O Gauge trains. it's mostly HO and N gauge and layouts. I guess you have never been to YORK.

This show is on my to do list. Had plans to attend about 15 years ago but there was a heavy snowstorm the day before we planned to leave so I backed out of a six hour drive In treacherous weather. Now I’m 2800 miles away so not likely anytime soon.

Madockawando, It does NOT have a huge presence of O Gauge trains. it's mostly HO and N gauge and layouts. I guess you have never been to YORK. Why don’t you quote what I said:” huge O gauge presence with Lionel, Atlas and MTH and O gauge dealers.” Yes there are other scales besides O gauge there but the show is so large, you find lots of O gauge to buy. Lionel no longer goes to York but will be Amherst as well as major O gauge dealers that are no longer attend York. York is a nice show if you are looking for prewar and post war trains and for catching up with friends. It is no longer the biggest and most important show in our hobby and attendance gets smaller every year.

I always find plenty of O gauge at Amherst. I think that is especially true if you are looking for new trains.

There's a guy who sells Weaver rolling stock in the Mallery building. I always find something to buy from him. This show is about Trains, York is about O gauge. There are several operating layouts of all scales, Tourist railroads, historical societies, specialty business selling layout scenery, books, videos, how to clinics, etc, etc. Lionel MTH Atlas Ross Customer switches Several dealers Scenic express Check out the list of exhibitors, see if there's something you want.
