Sorry to some as this may seem sacrilegious, but I have never found the long hood diesels like the RS-1, RS-3, and RS-11 appealing. Topping my list of ugliest is the FM Trainmaster. Again, my apologies to those who are fans. Whoa!!! You just shot yourself in both feet. Calling the postwar icon FM Train Master ugly just because you don't like one or two paint schemes is like folks today saying, "Challenger steamers are ugly because they don't like Lionel making one with the 49'er paint scheme." Please don't confuse the paint scheme with the locomotive design. Through the decades, Lionel has made many FM Train Masters. And very few have had rather bland designs. Some liveries have been quite striking.
I think you are confusing my post with rtraincollector. I dislike them all. He just dislikes certain colors.

I might be a crusty old steam curmudgeon ( that might get me into hot water in other places 😉), but when it comes to modern diesels I like the rugged looks of the GEs and their EMD predecessors. However, in my eyes the ugly ducklings of the train world are the passenger locomotives - the Genesis locos, the Siemens European electrics, Bombardier electrics…ugly, featureless boxes. There, I said it - Happy New Year and let the roast commence!

Me? I like the TMs. My choice would be the center cab steam locos. UGLY.

Matter of fact Amtrak has not had a decent looking locomotive since the hood units like the E9. Dave

Close, but thats not a Trainmaster. Traindiesel! buy it anyway! Right you are. Google does not always give you what you want. Take a look at the description. I'm guessing that is why I got a hit.

I have posted this before but some people will buy anything if the like the paint scheme. About 15 years ago at York there was a dealer who had a brick painted in the red and silver of the Santa Fe for sale. I think he had a price of $25 for the brick. I had to ask him if he was serious about selling it and told me no, it was just a joke. But he did tell me he got 3 orders for it in the first hour the show was opened. The guys who wanted to order one were disappointed that it was just a joke. Some guys will buy anything. Some guys did not like the joke.

Dave Actually, someone had that very brick or made one in the same scheme. If I remember correctly it was Lee Willis who posted about it years ago on the old forum. He even put it on his layout track!

It's like the pet rock of the model train world. Waste of time and money.
