I never heard what happened with the Train items that were mailed UPS from York TCA meet. I emailed Brian but he never got back to me.

Brian can certainly speak for himself, but as I remember the thread about this ended with him saying that he’d had to submit a claim to UPS to be compensated for the full value of the undelivered items. See here: o-gaugeforum.com/thread/9678/ups-shipping-fiasco?page=4. What became of them is a mystery and as it’s the subject of a claim I won’t speculate - and maybe Brian can’t either.

Brian replied that UPS agreed to accept his claim for the declared value but he did not acknowledge what that was. If I remember correctly the problem was the UPS facility on the West Coast
UPS and Fedex do not, I repeat do not, insure packages they just ask what the “declared Value” is and then charge accordingly. The USPO is the only carrier that I know of that actually offers insurance.

It's a bit hard to believe that UPS can lose track of any parcels as most all are tagged with RFID labels. Look behind the small labels that UPS uses and you'll see it.

It's a bit hard to believe that UPS can lose track of any parcels as most all are tagged with RFID labels. Look behind the small labels that UPS uses and you'll see it. Well, you have to be able to scan the RFID to read the info, and if a package goes on an unscheduled walkabout, it may not be able to be read. Worse, if the info is being read by someone with a skeptical eye, who deems it a suspicious parcel, what happens next is more a lesson in human fallibility and system failure than technical capability. In this case, reportedly something in the volume of packages being originated from York triggered UPS scrutiny, and rather than resolving whatever suspicion triggered the scrutiny and sending the packages along their way, the packages were instead banished to "lost shipment purgatory" and disappeared from the UPS system, at least from the posts on the topic I've seen.
