My sources also tell me Nicholas Smith Trains will be attending the Meet. Not as large of a presence, but they’ll be back!
I know they haven’t attended Allentown ATMA for quite some time now. For a few years, they took over the tables from Charles Ro Supply, when they bowed out. I guess business is thriving at the retail stores for both dealers. And the math to attend train shows doesn’t work anymore. Perhaps it never really did, and the former senior players at both shops are no longer making the decision to attend (i.e., Charles Ro senior passed away a couple of years ago, and Chris Ganz’ health hasn’t been good in recent years; so other family members are running the store now — making different decisions.)
On a related note though… Nicholas Smith Trains just recently upgraded their website, and it’s quite the upgrade. VERY easy to use… and quite impressive compared to the older format.
I visited the store after April’s Meet and in conversation with an employee, and without asking, I was told they’d be attending the York Meet in October. Not as big of a presence but they’d be there. Then just last month when I called them to inquire about an order I had, I was told again they would be at the Meet. So something must have changed between mid September and last week. I didn’t speak to the employee that told me they would attend York. I know he was there but I didn’t see him and couldn’t wait around because we had to get to the airport.
You’re right about the Nicholas Smith website. It is impressive, one of the better hobby shop websites I’ve seen.
