With York approaching, I've been compiling a list of possible purchases. I've been making room for whatever I bring back and definitely no ebay purchases or purchases of any kind.

A list for York. Ha ha haaaa, that’s cute. You can never stick to a list when attending the York Meet. Just let the Voices tell you what you need. They’ll council you, They understand, They’ll talk to you. It’s so much easier and stress free.

There particular things I need to get so the voices will have to wait until I'm done.

Unfortunately train budget is on hold for now. Too many maintenance surprises around the house this year.

If it exists in O gauge chances are that you will find it at York. Thats the good news, but I started noticing that the year I stopped attending the event, bargains were few and far between. Now with the economy in a sharp inflationary spiral it can cost you $1,000 or more for the trip just to get in the door. IMO, the trip for myself is no longer worth the exorbitant travel cost.

I agree with you 1,000%. There is really no way that York is a “financially justifiable” trip anymore for the typical train enthusiast. And I’ll go out on a limb to say enthusiasts now attend largely for the social element and general enjoyment factor. There are just far too many deals to be had throughout the year nowadays. So York doesn’t carry the “must attend” aura that it once did decades ago.
Nonetheless, I’m fortunate that York is a very manageable “day trip” for me. So as long as I can do it, I still enjoy attending. But I just don’t make it the multi-day trip that we once made it.

Nothing to do with York. But special vents we attended for decades, 3 and 4 days stays. Has gotten ridiculously high. Not the events, but Motels and eating out. Same Motels, either Hamptons or Holiday Inns, 30 years ago were 58.00 to 69.00 a night. Now they are 289.00 to 329.00 a night. Last year we shopped the cheapest, closest, and at least 4 stars and no negative reviews involving problems, nor cleanliness of area and rooms, 4 nights at 179.00 a night, plus all the extra add on that they find now-a-days to get your money besides taxes. Next years instead of 6 of these events, we're only attending 2.

This will be the first time we attend York as a Day Trip. The event is still great but the cost of accommodations and food has become a factor. I'm not comfortable paying "Resort" prices to stay in York, PA. It's a nice town but there's not much new or unique to draw us in for a couple nights.
