What tank cars do you have in your roster (manufacturers)? I have shown a photo of the four I have in the Side Shot Saturday 1 July thread. My favorite is a Sunoco 2-dome car from Lionel circa 1948. The link below is for a very good article – Railroad Tank Cars: Capacity, Dimensions, and History. What road names / products do you have / carry in your consists? Alfred

Now you've done it! Welllll....lessee here are some of mine Bing American Flyer Milk Tank Car ...and yes, there really was such a car on the real railroads - the sole surviving example is at the Illinois Railroad Museum Kitbashed - a car I refinished back in the day when the only thing Lionel was offering was Sunoco tank cars Bing - 8 wheel - markings are for an actual railroad car ca 1903 New Marx (Ameritrain) tool test tank car - cars like these are the first "production" run through new tooling. They are checked to make sure everything is working properly before actual production starts. Usually they are just scrapped - this one was given "legs" (trucks) and sold by the New Marx owners on e-bay several years ago. Dorfan Fandor American Flyer

Now you've done it! Welllll....lessee here are some of mine I have to say that is a very distinguished collection, thanks for posting and I'm almost ashamed to put anything I have on the same page with it! Overall I have very few freight cars as opposed to passenger rolling stock but a corner of my display has some tank cars in it. Apart from the Blackbonnet fantasy scheme which is recent MTH the rest are K-Lines. The UP car is part of a set of 3, they are made of aluminum and get run behind my Lionel Veranda Turbine when it is on the tracks. The set was a dealer custom run from something like 20 years ago and they are so superior to the stuff produced by Lionel and RMT today it isn't even funny.

I have several. There are about eight in my 911 train all marked for 911.

This is one of those categories where I’ve had FAR too many pieces of rolling stock. So I’ve sold off many tankers except for three groups.
On the scale side: a CN TankTrain, along with a variety of K-Line aluminum tankers made back in K-Line’s heyday when they were light-years ahead of the competition.
And lastly on the traditional, whimsical side… I have a colorful train of Lifesaver tankers in a variety of flavors collected over the years by Lionel and LOTS.

Harborbelt70, Ashamed of presenting? - I came up only with a Lionel 2-dome. I like your UP aluminum tankers; excellent to run them behind the Veranda. Alfred

PTC, On your Christmas / Winter layout, you need at least one tank car on a siding - with hot chocolate and a candy cane out of the top. Alfred

Rockymountaineer, That's great to have a complete tanker consist. I think Harborbelt70 was also impressed with the aluminum KLine tank cars. I too am a member of LOTS. Alfred

Posted by atsda about 23 hours ago; in the Side Shot Saturday thread for July 1. "...What is notable is the volume / tank size mismatch between the 3-dome and 2-dome tanks. The calculated gallons per cubic inch for the 3-dome is about 240, and for the 2-dome it is about 312. I have not been able to find the diameter (only length) of the tanks on modern (Lionel, Atlas O, MTH, or Menards) to make a comparison to see which of these post war tankers is closest to ‘scale’ with respect to their listed capacity. For example, a tank with 2 1/2” dia x 8 1/2” L having a capacity of 20,000 gallons would have a capacity to volume ratio of about 240 gallons per cubic inch; matching the figure for the 3-dome 6800 capacity car."
Would someone post the gallon capacity, and diameter and length of the tank on one of their 'modern' era tankers? Thanks. Alfred

I have about 18 modern tankers from Menards, mostly fantasy schemes but very colorful and they run great. They are very well done.
Also about 12 MTH modern tank cars, some fantasy, some prototypical and all great looking and well done.
Some of Lionel pw tank cars sunoco, gulf , have had them since I was a kid in the 1950's
Had many others thru out the years, K-line, Lionel and others.
