For those not familiar with the passenger cars I'm talking about. ( I wasn't when I first won a set ) The green car in front is your standard, standard gauge passenger car, in back is a 419, combo car.
This would be like putting a 600 series prewar car in front of a 70's passenger car.

I tried to take these pics at table level

Here is some updating, Primer

And now painted, but not together yet

Still kinda sticking with the topic, I bought some more passenger cars, the last two years of the 429,430,&431 the cars where orange. ( the 428 also but I'm missing that one. )
Missing 3 axles and 6 wheels ( all on order ) here is 429 Combo car
Here is 430 Observation car ( missing 2 axles and 4 wheels )
Also the hardest to find of the cars is 431 dining car, the diner car is the hardest to find as it was not sold as part of the set, it was a seperate sale item.

Great stuff! Not as eye-catching as your great-looking cars, but I have a 33/35/36 set in the paint shop at the moment. Seeing that shiny tinplate after removing a horrible black overpaint was refreshing, but priming is now done. Dave

I have a 402 purchased several years ago. It came with a pendulum reverser. It work fine. How common are Pendulum reversers in 402's?

How common not sure the 402 was made from 1923 - 1927, the 402E was 1926 - 1929. If you have a 402 not a 402E someone put it in there, I have a 402E that someone took out the reverse unit it had and put in a postwar pendulum style E-unit. I'm not sure what the original E-units looked liked, but do know from being told by others the prewar E-units either work good or don't work, and are a pain to get right. Probably why mine was switched out,

I have a 390E with the drum commutator and a pendulum reverse. What a strange and cantankerous beast the reverse is - but I got it working after picking a few brains, lol.

I have that engine also, and I also have the MTH remake for Lionel in 1988, which I think has the same E-Unit. (This is what I have been told. )

Surviving tinplate on my 33 project - all stripped and an Evaporust bath next. Thereβs a bit more surface rust than at first glance, but not bad. Dave

After two hours of reassembling, I still need to do both couplers, three Doors, and three steps, So, so far I have installed windows in the window/seat inserts ( not an easy task seeing the chairs are close to the windows. ) installed the light ( but not hooked up, need new wire for it. ) both trucks another not easy task, Putting ( I should say fighting. ) the window insert/seats ( there attached to each other. ) any way here is 2 pics of same side so you can see it so far. These are the 4 wheel trucks
Two more cars and A engine to do yet.
