Mr Muffins email he sends out came today and in it he is doing numbers 4000 as a special run from Lionel. So far he has 40 big boys ordered from customers to make sure they get. made. Lionel requires that at least 40 be ordered on a special run.
So much for the discussions of people backing off because of the price.

Lotta folks out there with deep pockets, which is why Lionel prices these “toys” where they do. I was never super-enamored with the Big Boy. But the MTH Premier model delivered last year called my name, and I succumbed to the temptation — fortunately for over $1,000 less.

Dave David, you sure get a lot of emails before I do as I haven't had the one from the Muffins you mention despite being on their circulation list. The one I got from them earlier about this model said that 40 was the minimum order and they wanted 20 by a certain date to proceed with the project. If they've already got 40 this latest version of many Big Boys will not be as exclusive as they claim. However, 40 at over $2,600 each is not chicken feed and I see your point about at least some people not backing off.
I've no interest in this model.

...HB70, check this morning's emails. I received one that looked like an earlier one... but you had to read through the contents a bit. And below the two b&w pictures of the Big Boy, there's a line stating "These will get made... over 40 orders!"
Some buyers will run them. Some will just display them. And there are some folks I'm sure are gonna buy these "on spec"... hoping to flip them down the road. Regardless... getting over 40 orders since this was announced last Friday (less than a week ago) is surprising to say the least.

I have to agree. I also get Mr Muffins emails and saw that they will be made, meaning he has at least 20 sold on order. He always says if he gets twenty he will take the chance. After seeing it and thinking about it (no not to order one as I have two MTH Big Boys), I think he is beating the drums trying to sell the other twenty. That is a lot of money to just have sitting in one engine on the shelves.

The email plainly said that he had 40 orders, in the past he has said that he needs 20 orders to go ahead with a special runs but I doubt he would have done it with the big boy considering the price point.

A special run of Big Boys... so much for the short lived "Great Toy Train Market collapse of 2023". The hobby is doing well.

Lets see, what can I buy for 2600.00, plus tax and shipping? Checking Lufthansa current price to fly to Tiegel Airport in Berlin for me and the wife and still have money over.

One special run I was hoping for was a Lionel Legacy Canadian National NW2 switcher. Would anyone else want one? I am still holding on to the slim hope we can get a train dealer to sponser it.

Do you live in Canada? If so you should contact a Contact a hobby shop in your area to see if they would do a special run. If your in the US do the same thing. You never know unless you ask. Dave

Dave No, I don’t live in Canada. My closest dealer is Charles Ro and I don’t think the eh have any interest in doing special runs. One dealer in Canada that might is George’s Train near Toronto…

However, I just got off the phone with Richard at George's Train near Toronto. He is open to the idea but he wants to see if there is enough interest. Here is there website www.georgestrains.com/Their phone number is 905-470-6200

I try to be in his zoom meetings on Wednesday nights. He has always said, and still says, minimum order is 40 of which if he can get preorders for 20 (HALF) he will take the chance and make the run. This means he still has 20 unsold and is trying to get us to purchase the this 20. Smart Business! Even if he gets stuck with 10 he has broke even or come close. I had a long talk with him at October York and even ask him about this. Same as what I just said. He is a great business man and supports what he sells. I love the zoom meetings for the updates from his suppliers and his wife does great scenery tips. One person who is usually there every week doing demonstrations I am NOT excited about du to what happen with this forum. But I do not hold that against MR Muffin and this person once in a while has a good tip.
