I won’t be buying a new ZWL transformer or anything Lionel. Their prices are ridiculous. Like Dennis, if I need a transformer, I’ll buy a ZW or a KW at a train show. I can buy a number of transformers and circuit breakers for less than 1 ZWL.

Is it me or does one car have more wheels on the truck?

Is it me or does one car have more wheels on the truck? You’re right - car 491 has six wheel trucks, the others have four wheels. I looked it up (see here and related pages: www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsPicture.aspx?id=17520)and the number of wheels is right for the three car numbers but the smaller wheelsets have been installed ‘way too far towards the middle of the cars. Now that will cause issues when these things can’t negotiate curves when coupled.

Is it me or does one car have more wheels on the truck? Well that’s the least of my concerns. The real issue is the location of the trucks on two of the coaches. That’s what really jumped out at me. Not good at all.

I can buy a number of transformers and circuit breakers for less than 1 ZWL. IMO if you add transient voltage suppressors and external 5-7Amp circuit breakers to the old ZW circuits they will be very compatible with modern equipment and will safely run them at less than one fifth the cost of the ZW-L. When I purchase anything I judge quality and value. Unfortunately, I just don't see it in anything Lionel these days.

And how about those new $100 bobber cabooses? Sorry, that's just nuts. Absolutely stark raving mad.
But, they will sell - especially the Strasburg RR one.
By the way, I hate bobbers. And here on the Panhandle, we turn 2 bobbers into 1 N6b!

Absolutely stark raving mad. … More absurdity can be found by looking at 64’ woodside coaches… now carrying a $450 MSRP for a 2-pack ($225 ea.) This weekend I was cleaning out my office and found a sales receipt from 2018, when I purchased a set of MTH Long Island RR 64’ coaches for $87/each. Same product whose street price now adds a cool $100+ under the Lionel brand. That says it all right there: premium pricing with absolutely zero added value.

OMG.
I know Lionel has done that with a number of acquired tooling sets - the Weaver B60b baggage cars, the MTH N6b, and others, but that price boggles the mind.
At some point, just about everyone is going to stop buying their stuff.

I'll stick with my 180 watt bricks....they'll power enough locos and passenger cars. I thought prices were nuts even a few years ago when boxcars were commonly $70.00 or so.... 900 bucks for a transformer is NUTS!!

Even the newer Lionel 180 power bricks will cost you nearly $700-$800 now for four of them to equal the new ZW output.
I realize that both MTH and Lionel were forced(?) to modernize the electronic components, but doubling the price seems excessive to me. I’m not one who usually complains about pricing but these new transformers are eye opening.
Well, maybe after the electronics become more available the prices will come down.
Wait, what am I thinking?!

Number one in marketing is that once the price is set no matter what the components cost in the future the price will stay the same.

I'll stick to my ZW 275 watt transformers. You can pick them up at York for around $100.

I use a 180w brick to power a Lionel TPC (Track Power Controller). It allows me to run 18v track power for Legacy or conventional power from my Cab2 remote. My Cab2 base connects to the TPC from the plug in the front. I can't remember what it's called.

I use a Lionel transformer from a Lionel set I bought for my son in 1996 and a ZW. I have a Williams transformer but haven’t used it yet.
