Not interesting except as it reflects on Lionel's current strategy, or maybe I mean owner-imposed limitations; the VL offering for 2023 is - another run of the Big Boy. See the 31 second video below which came out today.
Looks to me like they have ported various VL features from other VL models to this one, including the force coupler, pop-off valve smoke and bi-color classification lights. Otherwise it's basically a re-run.
Ho hum. I think you'd have to have a Big Boy obsession to go in for this. Dunno the price yet but it will likely be a shocker (even if there's no new tooling involved).

A whopping ho-hum. But for those who want one, by all means have at it.

A whopping ho-hum. But for those who want one, by all means have at it. There will be some who don't already have a fully featured Big Boy and others who think that this is a "must have" but as whole their number must be small. I guess Lionel is banking on having their minimum run number (whatever it is) fully subscribed but I imagine the price will be record-breaking to turn in any significant profit.
I am not interested in this model. If this is the best Lionel can do in present circumstances it is hardly encouraging.

Seems that's all Lionel is capable of doing anymore. Rehashing and rehashing, same old, same old.

I do like the BigBoy as a locomotive. But the models they make/made that would run on my layout are just so overly compromised that they look funny. I do have a Railking Challenger and I really like it, but when it goes around the curve, it looks a bit funny. Bigboy would look, well, even more funny.
If I had a larger layout and more disposable $$$$, I might consider this one or a used one from either manufacturer, MTH primarily.

Just what the O-Gauge world needs is another Big Boy. Lionel really knows how to read the market.

This is great!! I love this Lionel Vision Line Big Boy offering!!
Because it means my wallet is closed.
Now I can continue to focus on items I have my eye on. I already have two MTH 4-8-8-4’s and the first Lionel Big Boy with the Legacy set included.

I'll have a morbid interest in who actually buys this re-issue. They are not exactly lining up so far judging by various forum responses, but I assume Lionel has reason to think there'a a sufficient market for them.
My real gripe is that this is simply not in line with what Lionel used to do best - including recently - i.e. innovation, even when an older product was being "recycled."

I understand the complaints, but at the same time, it's hard to imagine any other engine being able to draw interest at the inevitably high price point VL engines command right now. I get why they decided to run it again. Who in the world is in any mood to drop that kind of money on trains right now?

Could this be the first $3000 O gauge locomotive?!

Could this be the first $3000 O gauge locomotive?! Wouldn’t surprise me. Me either. But it won’t get them any good press, and with reason. My bet is actually on something just south of $3 grand.

I'm looking for my first black box item. This may be the one or it maybe the one I pass on. It would be nice to offer something better than the Big Boy. Because people are price gouging the Polar Express Berk, there is a perfect opportunity to make the first Vision line Polar Express loco.
