This one is made by Lionel. It has a smoke generator under the roof that has a hi/lo switch. So cool! Kids young and old like it. I am a big fan of Woodland Scenics buildings too. All very cool.

"I am stuck on running Santa Fe F3 AA with small box car consist."
Nothing wrong with that, Alfred. My Sante Fe F unit ABBA's are always on the layout. Too good not to use them.

Adam, Do you mean a 2-8-4 heading your Santa Fe passenger service? Alfred

I am still working through all of the layout routes using my boyhood consist of a PRR operating box car and B&O automobile box car and AT&SF caboose led by Lionel SF 218 FA AA. I went through 2 more routes in both directions. I need to investigate two slow track stretches (not necessarily voltage related) and lubricate the non-power unit and box cars. I installed a homemade contact, just in front of the bumper at the end of the spur (tubular track ), that activates a 2023 reproduction horn (for a UP FA unit). Since I can’t see (literally) the caboose or engine approach to the bumper, I am using the audible signal. It works excellently. I will hide the horn/battery assembly in a nearby building or mounted under the middle of the layout. Alfred

Adam, Do you mean a 2-8-4 heading your Santa Fe passenger service? Alfred Yes, some people refer to this type of loco as a Berkshire, but I understand that it also had other names. Either way it is one of only 3 modern Lionel engines that I have and it looks great pulling the silver MTH Railking passengers cars.

Reversed the SF 218 consist into the spur. Put a train together with: GE44 Lehigh Valley #627 (Lionel , 1956/7)with two gondolas and two 3-dome tank cars with a LV caboose (N5C porthole type, 1953; have not put Braille on rolling stock, so I don’t know the road names – the long gondola maybe NYC). Had to work out some minor issues; however, very rewarding. The slow Track segments experienced with the FA’s, were not apparent with the GE44 - only used the main outer loop. If you don’t have to consider car weight or delivery order, then do you place the gondolas in the front of the consist and tank cars last, or vice versa?? Alfred

Alfred, I don’t put freight cars in any particular order. If I was running the same train I might put the tank cars first one time and the gondolas first the next time.

CountryJoe, Mixing it up is good. Thanks. I am partial to having the hoppers/ gondolas up front. Alfred
