Found a Observation car I have been looking for on Trainz.com. Number one it was a "Private Car Premium Car" meaning you have to join at $10 a month to be a member. The car was $110 plus tax but the cheapest shipping was $45.30 for one car. Total with tax came to $165.10 plus $10 for the Premium club. That total comes to $175.10. I stopping the order. What do you guys think? Don

Well if you wait and if nobody buys it who has a premium level it goes to the regular level that anybody can buy from. You save a few dollars and can buy it without joining the premium level. Now if you think it may not be there you just have to say to yourself, "how bad do I want it" its up to you!!

Btw, the shipping seems excessive, I would question that.

Shipping depends on where you live.
I looked at Trainz and saw one MTH car for $110. Shipping to me $37, tax $10 and car cost was around $157. Shipping is a bit high, but when I added two boxcars, the shipping for the lot was only $2 more.

Shippling rates have gone up everywhere, but you don't get any deals when ordering one car. It has to be something I just HAVE to have to do that. They normally only keep it on private car for a week or 10 days, so it may still be there. They do give free shipping over $500 - add a nice engine to your order!!!

By the way, double check the shipping when you are ordering, I've always seen them offer three choices of shipping type/speed, one is usually a good bit cheaper.

Not too bad, I thought. But then, tax plus shipping, add another $50. Fifty bucks! Really??? I didn't need those 3 freight cars THAT bad. I removed them from my shopping cart, and haven't ordered anything since. Not mad at 'em, I'll still order in the future, I'm sure. I just don't really need anything bad enough right now to warrant adding 50% more to a hundred dollar order for shipping and taxes.

Tom, we live in Scottsdale AZ. It seems way high to me. Don You are west of the dreaded Mississippi River! Any coming from the East, like Trainz in Georgia, is going to cost a more. The FedEx route is the cheapest. The USPS is double the FedEx amount. They definitely push buyers to buy many items, thus making the shipping much cheaper. I order stuff from Public Delivery Track in California and the shipping is cheap, as Beth uses UPS for the most part. She does ship with FedEx now and then. I don’t know how she gets the cheaper rates… Tom

They shouldn’t be charging out of state customers sales tax. It is like a federal tax at that point. Most online dealers don’t charge tax to out of state customers. Trainz probably does it because EBay makes them do it when they sell through them… Tom

I agree with David1....how badly do you want it? Price is what you pay, value is what you get (or perceive). Me? I'd wait...there's usually another around the corner..

I agree with those who pose the question, how bad do you want this item. If it were me, with all of the conditions, I would pass. It surely will come up again.

The options for shipping were: $45.30, $87.19 and $133.19. As they say in Texas, "El Paso". Don

ScaleRail, there is always another deal. You'll find it again at a better price.

My latest experience with them is the cost of the rolling stock is great but the shipping is a bit high and takes 10 days to get to me from the date of purchase - shipping from the same time zone. The price doesn't bother me as much as the time it takes to get the product. People play games with shipping so it's best to look at your total cost. You see the same thing with Amazon Prime all the time where they advertise free shipping, but if you look at other buying options you'll often find a lower price with shipping cost that then equate to the same total cost as Amazon - shipping built into the cost. There is economy of scale, but in the end everyone has to charge you in some way for shipping.
