Rich took home three Korber Sand Tower kits to put together. He built a jig and brought them here today to assemble. I was installing four relays to use controlling lights so when he finished, he started on the Transfer Table. He measured and adjusted several times, then asked me to approve it. “Uh, uh… no.” And we discussed how it needed to look again. Finally he heard what I had been saying and readjusted again. ”That will work well.” He moved several more braces, then climbed on top. He had the saw, we shared the Shop Vac, and we proceeded to make quite a mess. Oh well, we have been trying to do Spring cleaning since March. Now it has to happen. I went down under and pulled the plywood/homasote sandwich thru the hole. Wow, this was a different prospective. A few more braces had to be moved and then we lowered the Turn Table into place. Rich was on top handling bolts and I was underneath with washers and nuts. Things went smoothly and soon six bolts held the Table firmly in place. We cleaned up some more and called it a day. Tomorrow we hope to complete the main assembly and maybe try it out. Al’s Turntable and Transfer Table are easy to install and are excellent products.

Mark, the heavy duty work paid off. Today the Transfer Table was hooked up and moving an engine. It worked perfectly. Still a lot to do. Additional photos to follow as we complete things.

I have been prewiring AIUs to turn on and off each track block. I chose to follow the method Bill Webb is using. Bill gave me a bunch of photographs and a written description of how he is doing it. In this photograph, I have everything wired up except the red and black wires going to the mainline blocks. The red wires will connect to the relay board that has red wires on on side of each contact and the black wires will connect to the black side of the MTH terminal block. Once I move wires, I can move the TIU Fixed Output 1 to the MTH terminal block in the top of the photograph, and should be in business. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Up until now everything on the original setup has been left intact so I can still run trains. Once I get that working, I'll finish prewiring the other two AIUs for the sidings which are powered by Fixed Output 2. DZ1000 connections will come later. I thought I had it done right. Alas, when I connected the first red and black wires from the track and programmed the first accessory port, I could hear the relay in the AIU change state, but I got no power to the track. I see I do get a closed contact on the AIU, but it won't fire the blue relay. The power LED on the relay board is lit, but the relay doesn't operate. I tried three more, with the same results. I'll have to look into it further. Last Sunday I purchased this Bars Mills Idaho Hotel built kit from a longtime friend on that other forum. He built the kit 7 or 8 years ago, but wanted to sell it to make room for another scratch built building on his layout. He and his wife made a trip through Western Pennsylvania last weekend, so we met up on their return trip home to save packing such a gem for shipping. I really think it is a great addition to the layout and a tribute to my friend who is 11 years my senior.

Mark are you powering the AIU and relays from the same source… the same wallwort?
Is the AIU firing okay? You should hear the click.
Is the AIU firing the relay? The relay should light up.
If so, the only thing left should be the track power.
I will be glad to go thru what you have done with you. We should be back from church about 11:00. Give me a call (757) 334-4046.
Bill
Paula just read this… “Sounds like a real ‘Christmas Vacation’ moment.”
Look forward to talking with you.

Thank you Brian! It is a fine kit, and he did a superb job building it. I am tickled to have it. Thank you Bill! For anyone else reading, I was using two wallwarts, one for the AIUs and one for the relay boards. Once I connected both AIU and relay board to the same wallwart, everything worked perfectly. I'm still scratching my head as to why it made a difference, polarity was correct on both. Oh well. 43 years working in electronics taught me that some things are for the higher thinking engineers. I just accept what works and duplicate it on every similar job. I'm retired now; I won't worry my brain. As kids in high school used to say, "Ask me if I care?"

Mark, I'm glad you got the wiring figured out and it's working as it should. 👍
The hotel is a beautiful building. Your friend did an outstanding job on it. It will make a really fine scene on your layout.

Glad you got it figured out Mark. I go by the trial and error rule. Sometimes you stumble on the solution that way.

When I'm stumped I do what Adam does and start trial and error. You would be surprised how often that works. Many times I just stumbled on a solution.

Here's some super exclusive sneak peaks Cut a few more access holes and got the first section of upper level decking in place. Next will be to install the decking against the back wall. - Jason
