But imagine if everything just worked perfectly all of the time. How boring would that be! I think I'd like to try it sometime! lol

Decided to get my wiring neater by bunching the wires together, looks much better now. Although nobody will ever see it, I know! Another lighted tree was installed and a little scene of a seller selling Christmas trees.

Because I don't like wiring I would like to see dead rail come into existence for 3 rail. Yes I know its here in a small way but that's it.

You just like rubbing it in about the weather in California. Today it was 75 and breezy in your old neighborhood. Besides you gotta put up with all the crazies you call politicians. I'll stay here, been here for 75 years, why go anywhere else? Dave

It was 79 and a nice cool breeze at the beach, but 91 a few miles inland at our house. Low humidity too. Unfortunately the crazy politicians are everywhere, not just in the People’s Republic of California. But a lot of them are here. Why go anywhere else? That’s what I said before moving. You never know where life and the Lord will take you to. You just go along for the ride!

Seems Like I am odd man out. I love the building and WIRING! Thank goodness the wife enjoys the scenery as that is the part I dislike the most! Go Figure.

At my Age I would not change to dead rail but it is interesting.

Finally got to do some layout work this afternoon. Rich came over and we started with the boxes that Paula wanted moved out of the front hall. One arrived Saturday from Millhouse River. We carried it out first and opened it up. A long awaited transfer table was inside. Al really packs things well. After we got the box open, we removed all of the stuff from the box. The transfer table survived shipping perfectly. We took a couple of photos and put it atop the layout. We are not ready for it yet. More on this after we get things caught up; we have a number of items that need attention before we move to the diesel service area where this will be installed. We filled the hole in the ceiling where the water was condensing and dripping onto the roundhouse. Short story - the exhaust fan in the attic pulls from two ducts. One was above the roundhouse where there is significant smoke. Water was condensing and dripping from the duct onto the paper roof. Not good. So, after two attempts at fixing the problem, we pulled the ductwork and filled the hole from the top. The hole was not completely smooth at the bottom and we had to finish it off. Tomorrow we sand, touch up spackling, and repaint that part of the ceiling black. Then we can repair six damaged roundhouse roof panels. Raining inside and no leaks was a new experience. Then we troubleshot a power problem where one leg had no power. After 45 minutes that problem was fixed and we decided how to prevent a recurrence. Next we discussed control of the engine service area. We have as many as 20 tracks that we need to be able to shut off power to. MTH DCS and how to best control everything was the question. We decided to look at the MTH wi-fi system and Rich agreed to do the research. The wi-fi module was installed two years ago but we had not taken the time to get into it in detail. The time has arrived to do so. We refreshed our memories (that means I had forgotten), got it working, and ran a MTH train for 15 minutes using an I-phone. That got us back to where we were when we last used that control method. While we are at looking at MTH we will study routes and consider changing some of our control methods with the freight yard. It was a good afternoon’s work. Too many irons are in the fire and we have to complete some things before we go further. Attachments:

One day in the future I will be looking thru an issue of CTT magazine and see Bill and Paula's layout. I'll be thinking, "and I seen it being built"!

Bill, The transfer table looks great!! I'm glad you got the leak fixed. A couple days ago, I got back to my layout to see why engines were shutting off at the two switches I installed to feed two long sidings. I did this right before back surgery, so I just left it hang over the summer. It didn't take me too long to discover I had forgotten to install a power drop to the right hand siding. That was a really dumb oversight, but a much easier fix than I was anticipating. Now my engines can negotiate the switches and move cars through these two sidings that I envision being the place I will place cars and engines on and off the layout. That was an easy way to get back to the wiring of the layout. Next up is mounting my two AIUs I have just sitting on a Lionel shipping box and jumpered to the TIU. I want to control my DZ1000 switch machines and turn my power feeds on and off with the DCS remote. Bill has volunteered to share with me how they connected his with relays to handle the extra amperage and short circuits that will come with derailments. I see the end of one of my 6 log cars in the first photograph. Two cars are missing chains, so I bought some necklace chain the other day at Michaels to fix both cars. Here is the whole car that was in the first photograph.
