Andy, you will love those passenger cars. Some of the best that Lionel has produced.

Nice grab Forrest. We have the Lionel version. We will probably run it behind a mixed Heritage Train as we don't have any SP diesels. Couldn't resist the colors.

Here is an old Weaver kit. I wanted a couple Illinois Central cars to go with my IC engine and caboose. It was “scale” O but I converted it to 3 rail. It took a bit of machining the trucks and filing the center sill to get the height I wanted on the MTH trucks... Tom

So, that 2-car set DOES exist after all! Nice going, harborbelt! I considered going on the hunt for it after obtaining the 4-car set. But my smaller layout has only about 10 ft. of straight track on a couple of sides, with an ABA diesel set and the 4 passenger cars filling it in nicely. Since a shorter passenger car consist doesn’t “crowd” it, I’m happy with that. Glad you found the 2-car add-on. If you can, please post some photos of the completed set if it finds its way onto your layout when the time comes. Yes, Vern, there really is a Lionel 6-29152 set after all: This came via eBay and was listed as NIB. It might have been more accurate to say BLN as in “Box Like New“ as the original orange boxes show no sign of any real wear. However, on opening them I immediately spotted someone’s grubby fingerprints on the car sides, and one of the cars had the vestibule end cap misaligned and not properly screwed on. Out came the non-abrasive fine metal cleaner and with some work the original finish came up with nary a scratch: These cars gleam like nothing Lionel has produced in years but literally require white glove handling. The finish, especially on the roof, is mirror-like. I found that isopropyl alcohol is the best for giving the surface a wipe to remove any residue from handling. The end cap had obviously been removed at some stage and I immediately suspected that the light board had failed. Not so, it turned out, although part of the vestibule assembly had become detached and had been roughly glued back together with a joint that had failed. Anyway, the incandescent lighting works: I confess to committing the mortal sin of pride in thinking that the previous owner had not understood how these aluminum cars are assembled and so messed up the re-assembly of this one. Ha! Joke’s on me as I had to figure out from scratch how the vestibule and lighting strip actually align. Besides that, I have not unpacked the original 4 car set I have (can’t remember exactly where it is stored although the Santa Fe 6-14588 F3s those cars run behind is close at hand). I am a little apprehensive about what I will find when I open that set as I imagine I’ll see my own grubby prints on it! Nice going harborbelt and thanks for posting the photos. The cars look great!

Well whadaya know, harborbelt? I was messing around on eBay about a week ago and just for fun, keyed in the Lionel 6-29152, that very rare Santa Fe Super Chief 2-car add-on set that matches the rare 4-car set both of us have, and lo and behold, there it was! Offered by a hobby shop in Illinois, sealed and NIB for $230 Buy It Now plus $10 shipping, I grabbed it and am glad I did! It arrived today and the seller had even boxed the sealed shipping carton with packing peanuts (I love sellers who do that). I carefully unpacked them, lubed the axles, placed them in the train and away it went. A finished 6-car set pulled by an ABA set of Lionel F7s. I'm amazed at how much power the A unit has. If I notched it up to full throttle, the whole train would leave the track. Anyway, I'm very satisfied to have obtained this completed set, just 10 days after you got yours, harborbelt. I guess the gods are with us.

Vern, that's a sweet looking passenger train. IMHO 6 cars is the perfect length for a medium sized layout.

Vern, that's a sweet looking passenger train. IMHO 6 cars is the perfect length for a medium sized layout. Thank you Joe, I agree. I’d thought adding 2 more cars to this train would slow the powered A unit down a bit, pulling a dummy B, a dummy A, and 6 aluminum cars. But it seems to have no affect. So this is the right-sized passenger train for my layout.
