Christmas for me and my family since I can remember, has always been special ( even a period, were it was forbidden and there were no church to celebrate Christmas Eve Mass). It was a time when strangers would greet you, step aside and stop to help you. It was a time repeated many times over when wars suddenly came to a stop and men for brief moments remembered they were brothers. Christmas was when families and friends, and yes, strangers came together and remembered what was special about this time and many remembered it wasn't just getting and receiving presents to open. Christmas time long ago was waiting for the Sears, Montgomery Wards, Penny's Toy catalogs which we would pour over and over at all the wonderful toys we would wish for. It was special and we believed if we were good, that Santa would deliver all we wished for. Brian and Elisabeth celebrate Christmas year round with their layout and share their love for trains and the season they depict. If only the world would celebrate Christmas, its meaning and feelings year a round we would all be better and live in a better place. One time, someone sent me this link to share, and we have watched it many times over the years. I thought I would share it. There are times as here, were busy shoppers, stop and for a brief period in time, come together. Please forgive if not appropriate.

Josef, it is never to early to start celebrating Christmas. For me it has always been the most joyus time and I have many wonderful memories of family and friends and there are new memories created every year. People do seem to be a little more light hearted around Christmas. As a child I remember the Christmas displays that the retailers put together and the pride they took in them. Around our house you can find some decorations that our on display all year round.
Regards,
Gary.

Thank you Josef. The Hallelujah song sung by that children’s choir always gives me the goosebumps. One of the most beautiful versions of that song.

Not inappropriate at all, Walter. Actually, very uplifting on a rainy day.
You state very well that the world in general could use a lot more of the Chritsmas spirit. We get to celebrate Christmas all year with our layout. So for us, is is never too early to start the Celebration of Christmas.
Great thread.

Christmas spirit, always. Celebrating, I prefer after Thanksgiving. TV runs the holiday shows so soon that by Christmas they are all over with. I do admit I never get tired of Christmas Vacation, and I can no longer find the music programs like Boston Pops.

I guess I'm a Scrooge. I like to get through thanksgiving before I even think about Christmas.

I love Christmas. I love it all year long. Since I was in grade school and had my own record player I would listen to Christmas music soon after Labor Day! When I was a kid and only had the trains running during Christmas, I would build a 4'X4' layout in a corner of the basement during the summer, just to keep the feeling alive!

Reviving this thread as it seems to be the most appropriate place for this. One of our traditions is to spent a couple of days up at a fun little family amusement park called Santa's Village. We have been going there for a few years since the kids were small. While everyone is doing their black Friday shopping this year, we will be up in beautiful Jefferson, New Hampshire enjoying the Christmas scene. The next morning we always make a stop at Polly's Pancake Parlor on the way home and stuff ourselves silly. Of course, this is my favorite part: www.santasvillage.com/attraction/jinglebell-junction/They have Reindeer: www.santasvillage.com/attraction/reindeer-rendezvous/A Chapel: www.santasvillage.com/attraction/st-nicholas-chapel/And they have a beautiful full-sized manger. In the gift shop, they have pre-wraped surprise gifts. We have a tradition of getting something for someone else in the family Yes, the kids are too old for this place but so am I and I don't care! Anyone else do something like this during Christmas?

It is time to get the Christmas season rolling. It will be mid-November by the end of this week and Thanksgiving Day will be here before we know it.
Outside Christmas lights are installed and operational, just before the snow started today. In the North Country, we have to prepare early. Christmas Tree and inside lighting is next.
