Andy, your second building looks great. As Joe said you have the weathering down. Shows people the transformation from a plastic kit to a fine layout structure without breaking the bank. Well done.
Gary.

Andy, you did an outstanding job on the printing company. How many freight and passenger trains are you planning in your operating scheme? As I recall commuter passenger trains ran most of the morning and evening. Freight trains ran during the middle of the day and at night when they wouldn't interfere with passenger operations.

I’ll run a few of each. And you’re right, the freights ran in the middle of the day and off hours, while the passenger trains ran in the morning and evening rush. It’s only me operating so I can take my time and run what suits me. I have ground throws on a few of my switches, and I can follow a train around so that keeps me involved at all times.

Very nice work. Structure feels right at home on your layout.

I'm really enjoying watching these buildings come together. I haven't attempted a building kit yet, but this is getting me interested. Which brands are best for beginners and where can they be bought online?

I’m glad Adam! If I can do it, anyone can! There are many sites and manufacturers, but I can start you off with this one: www.rightontrackmodels.com/oscale-building-kits.htmlLaser cut kits that go together fairly quickly and easily. You can also try Atlas, DPM, Ameritowne, Banda Model Works, Bar Mills, BTS, Downtown Deco, Kornreich, and Riverleaf Models. Andy

I would also try Dennis Brennan's site here:https://brennansmodelrr.com
Great products as well as kits.

Which brands are best for beginners and where can they be bought online? Don’t get ameritowne. Their pieces are often warped and require a lot of skill and experience. RiverLeaf is excellent.

Thanks for the beginner tips. I will poke around in the sites. I’m also going to be at Amherst in January and I’m sure I will find some kits there as well.

This thread is better than going to the movies. Time to get the popcorn out to enjoy it more. Don't forget lots of butter.

Thank you Brian. Just think how fantastic it would be if we had more members starting their own build threads. I know some of the members here have amazing layouts. It’s a great way to share information, inspire someone else, or be inspired by someone else. I think we need more of it. What do you guys think?
