When I attempt to add some pictures to a thread on my iMac I click on the "Add Attachment" button, the window opens up to "Add Files". When I click on the Add Files button I don't get the dropdown list to pick my pictures from. Nothing happens when I click the button.
Strange thing is it works fine on my iPhone. Never had a problem on the iMac until recently. I haven't made any changes to the iMac settings. I'm using Safari 14.0.2.

Try clearing browser cookies on your Mac.

The same thing happened to me when the update from Catalina to Big Sur was installed. When I clicked the Add Attachment button and then clicked the Add Files button I was able to access Downloads, Documents, Google Drive, etc, but not Photos. I was going to contact Apple to let them know that Big Sur had a problem but didn't get to it right away. A day or two later I tried to add a photo just so I could accurately explain what was happening and it worked as it should. I'm not sure why since I hadn't changed anything since running the update to Big Sur. Wait a day or two and see if the problem works itself our for you as it did for me.

How come in messages, the box "add attachments" doesn't come up? Just the URL insert can be used, which i don't use.

I'm still unable to add pictures to a thread. The "add attachments" opens up but when I click on the "add files" button nothing happens. I cleared out the cookies and web history, then restarted the iMac. Still the same problem. it's happening on other forums too. I haven't changed any settings, one day it worked the next day it didn't. But it still does work on my iPhone.

Sounds like a browser setting of some sort. Maybe blocking pop ups or some security SW.

Brian, I have a Mac Book Pro that I bought last year to replace my 7 year old Mac Book Pro and I have no problem uploading photos. I also have no problem uploading photos with my iPhone 12 mini. Have you updated the OS to Big Sur? Is your machine capable of running Big Sur? My old Mac Book Pro, which still works, is only capable of running Catalina. You've done all the things I would have tried. I'm not computer savvy enough to offer any other possible solutions.
One more thought; how old is your iMac? Macs are incredibly reliable and last a long time but I think they eventually become obsolete and need to be replaced. Sorry I can't be any more helpful.
I am on my Mac and uploaded this photo just to verify that I can.

Brian have you recently loaded an app that might use your photo albums? Are you loading straight from the Mac or from iCloud?
Here is one thing I found while searching - which sounds like a PIA!
Create a new Smart Album by choosing File > New Smart Album. ... Select "Unable to Upload" in the left sidebar. Press Command-A to select all the photos in the Smart Album, and then choose File > Export > Export Unmodified Original For (#) Photos.

I believe that this is a problem specific to Mac notebooks and the Safari browser. It started for me after the last Safari security update (I haven't installed Big Sur). It affects not only the forum but things like Outlook. It does NOT arise using Firefox. I have looked for a Safari solution and none comes up. Complete PITA having to change browsers.

Joe, the OS update solved the problem. My iMac is a 2017 version (that we bought in 2018). I uploaded Big Sur and that fixed it. I guess the Catalina OS couldn't keep up with the forum!! At least on my machine.
Thank you all for your help!!

Thank you all for your help!! I'm glad I was able to help, Brian. Your 2017 version is still new. I bought my old Mac Book Pro in March 2014. It is either a 2013 or early 2014 version.

Sometimes I think these computers have a mind of their own. Up until recently I was able to upload pictures to the forum with the Catalina OS. Then a month ago...:: ::poof:: :: it wouldn't work. I guess it's Apple's way of saying it's time to upgrade!

The forum provider probably made some changes to make some older versions of some browser component incompatible. And I bet the reason was related to a security vulnerability.
