Sometimes I think these computers have a mind of their own. Up until recently I was able to upload pictures to the forum with the Catalina OS. Then a month ago...:: ::poof:: :: it wouldn't work. I guess it's Apple's way of saying it's time to upgrade! Software developers are constantly upgrading operating systems and applications. Some to add new features, but often times it's to address problems within the OS, most are security related.
Quite often an older version of an OS will no longer work on newer platforms, or be compatible with newer applications. Software undergoes regression testing, i.e., they go back and test older features and functionality with the newer OS to make sure everything still works. But regression testing doesn't always catch every instance of software/hardware that is out there.
Best bet is to stay up to date with your OS, browser, and applications. Not to say it's always going to work, but at least you're ahead of the game.
