Here is video I recorded back in July 2019 of my Leslie 3 chime RS3L, Nathan 3 chime P3 & silver chrome imitation K3LA, train horns. As to the 2 real horns, I got those years ago from a retired engineer who worked for Southern Railway. A lot of people who visit our place love to hear what real train horns sound like in person.
As to that Imitation K3LA, I purchased that from an online semi truck parts store. They had semi horns for sale and this one truly sounded the most real. Downfall with this one, I had to replace the plastic diaphragms inside. I cut out aluminum from pop cans and used it to replace the diagrams which it still sounds fantastic and they have not warped yet. The plastic diaphragms warped within a month after use. So far the aluminum I put in was 5+ years ago and they are still doing fine.
Note after I did my horns, somebody 3/4 mile south of my location blew his WABCO AA2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And I know a lot of you will find this fascinating, Amish on the corner of our road have a Chessie System Nathan 5 chime K5LA on the top of their barn which is only quarter mile from our business.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ About 1 mile east of our business is another Amish that has a Nathan P5 on top of their business.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And then their is a Septic Company nearby our business as well that has a Raised Letter Nathan 5 chime K5LA.
As to how the Amish can blow these horns, is they use a gas powered air compressor.

That was cool. Seeing how far you had to put the camera, those babies have volume.

Nice demonstration, Tom. Seems like the Amish are into diesel locomotive horns on their properties. 🤔

Do the Amish use the horns for communication? Good question. Or maybe as an alert to others in the area when they need help, since they don't use phones.

The horn definatly wakes up folks that are on the phone, not paying attention or driving like a horses arse! Much better than the single tone(clown) horn the older square headlight Wranglers came with. Mike

Well, to answer this one, yes they do use their horns like a morse code. The Amish that has the K5LA, they blow it usually 3 Longs & 2 Shorts for needing help with things on their property and same thing goes for the P5, usually it's 2 Longs, 2 Shorts & 1 Long. As for me, I do it like the regular crossing sequence. Now as to phone, well that will amaze you there. 90% of the Amish in my area have phones and some use cell phones as well. The cell phones are for when there on a job.

Wow... I am coming to live in your neighborhood! Well, that would be nice, but there are no real trains where as you have behind your house an actual train that runs by. But yes I but I get what you mean. Every time I hear the horns in my area, totally reminds me of trains coming through. And yes, it has happened, Train Horn Wars.

They're Amish, not Mennonite. What you are thinking of is the way you always hear pr see about the Amish of what they do, but in our area the Amish are modern. They still do the same things like use buggies, no electricity, etc. but they also use solar panels, phones, tractors, etc, which that is most times on weekends because they know a lot of tours and city people come out and then when weekdays come, it's a tad different. Also younger generationb Amish put speakers in their buggies and run they off a car battery and blare music late at night. So, it just depends upon the location your at. Example, Strasburg PA Amish are way different then Northeast Ohio on the way they are. But anyway, best way to know sometime is to come out to our area to see our place Corner Field Model Railroad Museum sometime. We are in the hear of Amish country in Northeast Ohio of Huntsburg and maybe you'll see what I mention about. But anyway, if you have additional questions, send me a PM.
