The wash is a good idea as it prevents faces and indeed other flesh looking like it came straight from a Chinese factory. Another thing is that with the 3D printed figures I have worked on, if the printing does not produce clear facial features, a little epoxy modeling compound or filler will produce an acceptable nose job. Other features like eyes, brows and mouths really call for the smallest brush or dot applicator you can find because only paint will really bring them out. That said, some of the better faces I have come up with have been accidents of my crappy brushwork. These few people's expressions were basically the result of some accidental brush strokes: A lot depends on how closely someone is really likely to peer at a figure but with passenger car interiors, my invariable experience is that all visitors want to have a snoop through the windows. So I tend to place those characters that have come out best closer to the windows.

I use the sharp tip of a toothpick to add white to eyes, when dry, add black or blue dot with again, sharp end of toothpick. I also use a toothpick to do lips.

I should have added, I use "Insignia Red" for lips. Its flatter looking and more natural. Its available by several paint makers. At present I have a Model Master Acrylic "Insignia Red" bottle I use

Otherwise if you have to use thinner to get it off it can smear and, much worse, react with the plastic.

Adam, are you going to try 3D printing any seated figures? I was looking for some from Scenic Express but the smallest size they have is 1:50.
I tracked down some old K-Line seated military passengers but good as they are that's not what I was looking for; I wanted their dining car people including staff as well. No luck on that front.
If I had time on my hands I think I'd try learning to do the drawings for this stuff. How steep is the learning curve?

If I had time on my hands I think I'd try learning to do the drawings for this stuff. How steep is the learning curve? That’s the plan and I fact I have found some models to print online. I haven’t tried to design people models yet myself. I usually download from various websites. There are software packages that apparently can take a photo and convert to a model. I have experiment much with them so really can’t comment on that. If you want to some experimenting I think some of the OGF member would really appreciate that. BTW, check out my lessons on OGF University thread. I listed some site where you can download models from there.

This is a GREAT THREAD Adam!! Your figures are coming together so well! Great tips from Walter and H.B. I think Laz wants to hire the old lady as a Bouncer for DA BING!!

Hi Adam, I am following your 3D Printer Thread. Very informative postings. Thank You. Your people are really nice. I think they look better than some you can buy. Gary and I looked at 3D Printers a while ago. May have to look at them again. Great additions to the posts by other members as well.
Happy Easter,
Cheryl.
