George, I noticed that a BNSF ES44AC #6436 just sold on eBay about 6 weeks ago for $1,350 or so plus shipping and sales tax. Considering it was graded C-6 (very good), that's still a bit too rich for my blood -- especially considering there are several other options in the market right now with ABS-body BNSF ES44AC's if you're just planning to double-head with #6431. To think these die-cast babies were catalog'd for $849 MSRP or so... and back then that seemed HIGH for a diesel locomotive!!! I paid a shade over $1,000 for #6431, because I had stepped away from the buying action when all these die-cast ES44AC were being delivered to the market. So there was nothing even close to MSRP by the time I was looking to grab one. But I don't think I would have sprung for $1450 out the door to obtain #6436 last month unless it was in pristine c9/c10 Mint condition. Not in C-6 condition though -- even with a reputable seller like Trainz. I'm just not interested in paying "premium" dollars to fund somebody else's profits. That's not where my head is anymore, because on any given day the price of these babies isn't gonna sustain those levels. I've seen it happen ENDLESSLY since the 1980's. It may not happen overnight, but it WILL happen. And I don't wanna get caught when the music stops playing. 'Till next time.... David

Agree DAVID, the prices will come down eventually. If you wait long enough everything will settle. I got these die cast engines when the getting was good and my dealer was giving them to me at about $600 bucks. Great price indeed. I truly miss getting those deals fore he is out of business because of his health. But back when, he sold volumes of trains, had a big following of hobbiest, along with other smaller dealers he sold to. That’s why I got them at such a great price, also I was a frequent buyer and friend. Maybe one of these days we’ll get some of these beauties again? Time will tell.

I'm starting to develop an interest in tinplate engines. Some of them are just beautifully detailed. I don't have specific one in mind yet, though the Blue Comet is really sanzy and might just be the one. Of course that means I would need the passenger cars to go with it!

Lionel-6-38250-10th-anniversary-Polar-Express F/T A unit to go with my set along with Alaska RailRoad Geeps. The PE Streamliner is a lot of fun. It's well worth the hunt. Good Luck! Emile I love my set. I got the two car add on to go with it. Picked up some extra cars a few years ago at the Tampa December train show. Forgot what I paid but it was a deal I couldn't refuse. No extra engine though. I'm currently working on two dome cars and a non powered B unit for it since Lionel never put anything extra out for this set.

My Holy Grail loco (at least in O-Gauge) is the gray Lionel 763E Hudson with the gray coal tender, sold in 1940 only. They're out there, but most sellers want more than I'm willing to pay.
