Nice pics JOE. Were there any plans in restoration of the caboose and passenger car? They look a little rough.

Nice pics JOE. Were there any plans in restoration of the caboose and passenger car? They look a little rough. From what I saw, it looked like everything was once restored but fell into decline. The museum was closed due to a lack of volunteers.

What a shame, looks like some nice things upon entrance of the museum.

It is actually an Erie caboose, a Dunmore type. The area is not very populated despite being “close” to New York City. That may have something to do with the lack of volunteers. It is sad to see the museum being dormant...

I was in Roscoe a number of times over the years and the museum was never open. Tom is right, there's not a lot of people there and almost no reason for travelers on 17 to visit Roscoe except for a quick stop at the Roscoe Diner.

Great shots, Joe! I love visiting railroad sites like this. You never know when they'll disappear.

At one time, it was a leading carrier of milk into New York City by way of Weehawken due to a friendly connection with the New York Central's West Shore.
It also cashed in on the coal industry with a double track line into Northeast PA/Scranton.......when the milk and coal industry withered, so did the O&W. Passenger traffic died with the advent of the automobile.
If you look at the map, a comment someone made is that it was "up and down to nowhere" and therefore could not survive drastic economic change.

Pebo, Thank you for these pictures. I learned about NYO&W because of my trip to Roscoe. It's great to see and learn more about it.

Nice pictures and summary, Peter. I used to spend a lot of time up in O&W country. My brother lived in Delhi, where the O&W Delhi branch used to terminate. It was hard to find any trace of the “Old and Weary”...

These are a couple of pictures I took of the Middletown station many years ago.
